TLDR
Isotope analyses of Os, Sr, Nd, and Pb elements were caried out on twelve peridotite xenoliths from the Jagersfontein, Letseng-la-terae, Thaba Patsoa, Mothae, and Premier kimberlites of southern Africa, to investigate the timing and the nature of melt extraction from the continental lithosphere and its relation to the continent formation and stabilization.

Controls on PGE fractionation in the Emeishan picrites and basalts: Constraints from integrated lithophile–siderophile elements and Sr–Nd isotopes

TL;DR: In this article, the Emeishan large igneous province (ELIP) is divided into those that show LREE enrichment and those that are characterized by LREE depletion, suggesting that crustal contamination has been negligible, and source mantle variation is responsible for their chemical diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI

Are highly siderophile elements PGE, Re and Au fractionated in the upper mantle of the earth? New results on peridotites from Zabargad

TL;DR: Kurat et al. as discussed by the authors analyzed seven peridotite samples from Zabargad Island (Red Sea) for highly siderophile elements (HSE), including five platinum-group elements (PGE: Os, Ir, Ru, Rh, Pd) and Re and Au.

Noble Gases as Mantle Tracers

TL;DR: A brief overview of the discovery of the noble gases and their continuing utility in the Earth Sciences can be found in this paper, where the authors focus on noble gases in Earth's mantle.
Journal ArticleDOI

Platinum-group element geochemistry of peridotite xenoliths from the Sierra Nevada and the Basin and Range, California

TL;DR: In this article, the nature of PGE-Re (PGE = Pt, Pd, Os, Ir, Ru, and Ru/Ir) behavior in subcontinental lithospheric mantle was investigated using new, high precision PGERe abundance measurements and previously published Re-Os isotopic analyses of peridotite xenoliths.

Os–Pb–Nd isotope and highly siderophile and lithophile trace element systematics of komatiitic rocks from the Volotsk suite, SE Baltic Shield

TL;DR: In this article, the age of komatiites and basalts from the Volotsk suite in the SE Baltic (Fennoscandian) Shield were derived from a mantle source characterized by depletions in highly incompatible lithophile trace elements, with the magnitude of the time-integrated LREE depletion (initial ǫNd −2.7±2.2) typical of this period in the Earth's mantle history.

On the regional variation of heat flow, geotherms, and lithospheric thickness☆

TL;DR: In this article, Pollack et al. constructed a global map of lithospheric thickness based on the regional variation of surface heat flow, geotherms, and lithosphere thickness, and identified the lid as synonymous with the lithosphere.

The composition and evolution of the continental crust: rare earth element evidence from sedimentary rocks

TL;DR: In this article, a revised andesite model is used to obtain total crustal composition, assuming that the upper crust, one-third of the total, is derived from intracrustal partial melting.
