Priming memory invokes seed stress-tolerance

TLDR
A hypothetical model illustrating the cellular physiology of priming-induced stress-tolerance is proposed, likely achieved via two strategies: first, seed priming sets in motion germination-related activities that facilitate the transition of quiescent dry seeds into germinating state and lead to improved germination potential, and secondly, priming imposes abiotic stress on seeds that represses radicle protrusion but stimulates stress responses.

Pre-Drought Priming: A Key Drought Tolerance Engine in Support of Grain Development in Wheat

TL;DR: This chapter accumulated the information about the role of pre-drought priming to sustain grain development under post-anthesis drought stress by regulating carbon assimilation, translocation, leaf senescence, grain size initiation, grain filling, levels of growth hormones, and activities of enzyme related to grain development.

What happens when the rain is back? A hypothetical model on how germination and post-germination occur in a species from transient seed banks.

TL;DR: The findings support the idea that the increment of seed germination kinetics when the rainy season returns is mainly based on the metabolism and embryonic growth, and that the hydropriming, at the end of seed dispersion, increases the germination window time of these seeds by mainly increasing the degradation of galactomannan of the cell wall.

Seed priming with hydrogen peroxide alleviates the effects of drought stress in rice (Oryza sativa L.) seedlings.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of seed priming with H2O2 on growth, some physiological characteristics and antioxidant enzyme activities in rice seedling under drought stress were investigated, and it was concluded that seed pre-priming with 2-10 mM H 2O2, is beneficial for enhancing drought tolerance in Rice seedling by increasing antioxidant capacity, which in turn reduces oxidative stress and damages to the cellular components.

Effect of laser- and hydropriming of seeds on some physiological parameters in sugar beet

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of pre-sowing seed treatments on some agro-physiological parameters of sugar beets was evaluated by determining acid phosphatase activity, concentration of phosphate and photosynthetic pigments in leaves as well as the nutrient status and some yield parameters of the roots.

What is seed water memory?

Seed water memory refers to the improved stress-tolerance of germinating seeds that have undergone seed priming, a pre-sowing treatment involving partial hydration of seeds.
