TLDR
The analysis of steady-state kinetic measurements of the NO reductase activity shows a sigmoidal relation between rate of NO reduction and NO concentration, consistent with a model describing sequential binding of two molecules of NO to the reduced enzyme.

Cell biology and molecular basis of denitrification.

TL;DR: Denitrification is intimately related to fundamental cellular processes that include primary and secondary transport, protein translocation, cytochrome c biogenesis, anaerobic gene regulation, metalloprotein assembly, and the biosynthesis of the cofactors molybdopterin and heme D1.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bacterial respiration: a flexible process for a changing environment.

TL;DR: It is amongst the Bacteria and Archaea that respiratory flexibility can be found at its most extreme and contributes to the ability of prokaryotes to colonize many of Earth’s most hostile microoxic and anoxic environments.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nitric Oxide in Biological Denitrification: Fe/Cu Metalloenzyme and Metal Complex NOx Redox Chemistry

TL;DR: This paper aims to demonstrate the efforts towards in-situ applicability of EMMARM, which aims to provide real-time information about the “building blocks” of EMT and its role in disease.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structural Basis of Biological N2O Generation by Bacterial Nitric Oxide Reductase

TL;DR: The transmembrane region topology and arrangement of metal centers in NOR are similar to those in cytochrome oxidases, key enzymes in aerobic respiration, and a structural comparison gives insight into the features that allow conversion between nitric oxide and oxygen reduction.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanisms and Specific Directionality of Autotrophic Nitrous Oxide and Nitric Oxide Generation during Transient Anoxia

TL;DR: A specific directionality in nitrous oxide (N(2)O) and nitric oxide (NO) production was demonstrated and was linked to a major imbalance in the expression of the nitrite reductase gene, which was overexpressed during transient anoxia.
