Quasi-static normal indentation of an elasto-plastic substrate by a periodic array of elastic strip punches

TLDR
In this article, the plane-strain, elasto-plastic contact problem is treated for a substrate that is perfectly plastic post yield, and so simulates compression molding of some metals at elevated temperatures.
About

From micro- to nano-scale molding of metals: Size effect during molding of single crystal Al with rectangular strip punches

TL;DR: In this paper, a single crystal Al specimen was molded at room temperature with long, rectangular, strip diamond punches, and a series of punch widths, ranging from 5 μm to 550 nm, were obtained.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessing texture development and mechanical response in microscale reverse extrusion of copper

TL;DR: In this article, a reverse extrusion on annealed Cu rod specimens was conducted to form cup-shaped structures with sidewall thicknesses ranging from ∼400 µm down to ∼25 µm.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonlinear analysis of compact and thin-walled metallic structures including localized plasticity under contact conditions

TL;DR: In this paper, a numerical analysis of elastoplastic contact problems of compact and thin-walled metallic structures is presented, based on the Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF) to capture localized effects and cross-sectional distortions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fabrication of Metal-Based Microchannel Heat Exchangers and Quantification of Their Liquid Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors report fabrication and assembly of all-Cu MHE prototypes, as well as results of flow and heat transfer testing using pure water and pure EG as the application-relevant coolants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Scaling the response of microscale compression molding of elemental Cu in the presence of dynamic recrystallization

TL;DR: In this article, the micromolding response of elemental Cu is measured as a function of molding temperature, and the results show that even in the presence of DRX, an appropriate one-parameter scaling continues to reduce the molding response to a universal function.

The Hardness of Metals

David Tabor
TL;DR: Hardness measurements with conical and pyramidal indenters as mentioned in this paper have been used to measure the area of contact between solids and the hardness of ideal plastic metals. But they have not yet been applied to the case of spherical indenters.
