Rare earth elements and the island arc tholeiitic series
P. Jakesˇ,James B. Gill +1 more
TLDR
The island arc tholeiitic series as mentioned in this paper is the most dominant in many western Pacific and Atlantic Island arcs and represents the earliest stages in arc evolution. But it is chemically inappropriate to call many of the rocks in island arcs calc-alkaline and they suggest they be known as the "island arc thoeitic series" and they differ from normal thoeiitic features by having a higher percentage of intermediate and acid members and too little normative olivine, for example, to have been in equilibrium with peridotite.About:

Chapter 18 - Reconnaissance Geochemistry of Devonian Island-Arc Volcanic and Intrusive Rocks, West Shasta District, California
TL;DR: In this article, major and minor element geochemistry of Middle Devonian Copley Greenstone and Balaklala Rhyolite of the West Shasta district, eastern Klamath Mountains, California, confirms earlier worker's conclusions that these rocks formed in an island-arc environment.
Journal ArticleDOI
Some aspects of the volcanology and geochemistry of the Tengger Caldera, Java, Indonesia: eruption of a K-rich tholeiitic series
M. van Gerven,H. Pichler +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed petrographic and stratigraphic description of the two major caldera units, i.e., the pre-caldera formation and the post-altera formation, is provided.

Late Cretaceous calc-alkaline and adakitic magmatism in the Sistan suture zone (Eastern Iran): Implications for subduction polarity and regional tectonics
Michael Jentzer,Hubert Whitechurch,Philippe Agard,Marc Ulrich,Benoit Caron,Mohammad Hossein Zarrinkoub,Reza Kohansal,Lucie Miguet,Jafar Omrani,Marc Fournier +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide geochemical data on Late Cretaceous (~78 ± 8 ǫ Ma) samples collected on the eastern side of the Sistan suture zone.

Is the Cretaceous primitive island arc series in the circum-Caribbean region geochemically analogous to the modern island arc tholeiite series?
TL;DR: The Early Cretaceous island arc lavas in the Caribbean region are frequently assigned to the primitive island arc (PIA) series and not to the island arc tholeiite (IAT) series as mentioned in this paper.

Rare earth element abundances in Caledonian metavolcanics from the island of Leka, Norway.
Tore Prestvik,Elen Roaldset +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, rare-earth elements (REE) were determined in metavolcanics and metagabbros from the island of Leka, Norway, based on regional geological features, lithology, and the REE abundances.

Distribution of the Elements in Some Major Units of the Earth's Crust
Karl K. Turekian,K. H. Wedepohl +1 more
TL;DR: A table of abundances of the elements in the various major units of the Earth's lithic crust with a documentation of the sources and a discussion of the choice of units and data is presented in this article.

The genesis of basaltic magmas
David H. Green,A.E. Ringwood +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the results of a detailed experimental investigation of fractionation of natural basaltic compositions under conditions of high pressure and high temperature were reported, where a single stage, pistoncylinder apparatus has been used in the pressure range up to 27 kb and at temperatures up to 1500° C to study the melting behaviour of several basaltics compositions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trace element fractionation and the origin of tholeiitic and alkaline magma types
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the abundance of large ion elements in alkaline basalts cannot be consistently explained by fractional crystallization processes and that these characteristics are produced by previous partial melting episodes.

Chemical Characteristics of Oceanic Basalts and the Upper Mantle
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that oceanic tholeiites are either complete melts of the upper mantle or are generated from a mix of this tholeite and a magnesium-rich peridotite or dunite in proportions up to perhaps 1:4.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chemical Characteristics and Origin of Oceanic Ridge Volcanic Rocks
TL;DR: Oceanic ridge volcanic rocks alkali metal, alkaline earth, rare earth, nickel and major element content, observing partial melting as mentioned in this paper. But this is not the case for all volcanic rocks.
