TLDR
NoteCards is presented as a foil against which to explore some of the major limitations of the current generation of hypermedia systems, and characterizes the issues that must be addressed in designing the next generation systems.Abstract:
NoteCards, developed by a team at Xerox PARC, was designed to support the task of transforming a chaotic collection of unrelated thoughts into an integrated, orderly interpretation of ideas and their interconnections. This article presents NoteCards as a foil against which to explore some of the major limitations of the current generation of hypermedia systems, and characterizes the issues that must be addressed in designing the next generation systems.read more

Structural analysis of hypertexts: identifying hierarchies and useful metrics
TL;DR: This paper proposes several authoring tools, based on hypertext structure analysis, that provide a multifaceted view of the hypertext, which should allow authors to reduce undesired structural complexity and create documents that readers can traverse more easily.

Tools and approaches for developing data-intensive Web applications: a survey
TL;DR: This paper investigates the current situation of Web development tools, both in the commercial and research fields, by identifying and characterizing different categories of solutions, evaluating their adequacy to the requirements of Web application development, enlightening open problems, and exposing possible future trends.

Hypermedia and cognition: designing for comprehension
TL;DR: This discussion of “designing for comprehension” addresses the second type of task—reading a hyperdocument for learning—that is more adequate for tasks requiring deep understanding and learning.
