Renal artery denervation for treatment of patients with self-reported obstructive sleep apnea and resistant hypertension: Results from the Global SYMPLICITY Registry

TLDR
This analysis of patients with and without OSA evaluated the blood pressure-lowering effect of sympathetic modulation by renal denervation (RDN) in a real-world setting, and found that RDN resulted in significant BP reductions at 6 months in hypertensive patients with a history of hypertension and regardless of continuous positive airway pressure usage in OSA patients.
Abstract
Background:Sleep-disordered breathing, predominantly obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), is highly prevalent in patients with hypertension OSA may underlie the progression to resistant hypertension, partly due to increased activation of the sympathetic nervous system This analysis of patients with and

Atrial fibrillation in obstructive sleep apnea: Neural mechanisms and emerging therapies.

TL;DR: The autonomic nervous system may be a promising therapeutic target for OSA and AF because it plays a crucial role in atrial autonomic, structural, and electrical remodeling, thus providing substrates for AF maintenance and recurrence.

Chronic intermittent hypoxia-mediated renal sympathetic nerve activation in hypertension and cardiovascular disease

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that CIH-mediated renal sympathetic nerve activation is involved in increased systemic oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, and renin-angiotensin system activation, thereby contributing to the development of HT and CVD, thus could be an important therapeutic target in patients with SAS.

Modulation of renal sympathetic innervation: recent insights beyond blood pressure control

TL;DR: The current literature on anti-arrhythmic effects of RDN is reviewed with the focus on atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias and new insights from preclinical and clinical mechanistic studies and possible clinical implications are discussed.

Using standardized serum creatinine values in the modification of diet in renal disease study equation for estimating glomerular filtration rate.

TL;DR: The MDRD Study equation has now been reexpressed for use with a standardized serum creatinine assay, allowing GFR estimates to be reported in clinical practice by using standardized serumcreatinine and overcoming this limitation to the current use of GFR estimating equations.

Reversal of obstructive sleep apnoea by continuous positive airway pressure applied through the nares

TL;DR: Five patients with severe obstructive sleep apnoea were treated with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) applied via a comfortable nose mask through the nares, which provides a pneumatic splint for the nasopharyngeal airway and is a safe, simple treatment for the obstructiveSleep apNoea syndrome.
