TLDR
In this article, it was shown that the phase shift procedure is still necessary for correct reconstruction of the object wave field and that the statistical approximation used in our previous Letter [Opt. Lett.28, 1808] is reasonable for most objects, including both smooth and diffusing surfaces.Abstract:
In answer to the questions raised by Ferrari Garbusi [Opt. Lett.29, 1257 (2004)] we indicate that, even if the intensities of the object and reference waves can be measured, the phase-shifting procedure is still necessary for correct reconstruction of the object wave field. We also show that the statistical approximation used in our previous Letter [Opt. Lett.28, 1808 (2003)], sin φox,y=2/π, where φox,y is the phase of a diffraction field and means average over the whole interferogram frame, is reasonable for most objects, including both smooth and diffusing surfaces, and that the method we proposed for phase-shift extraction is correct.read more

Accurate Phase Shift Extraction for Generalized Phase-Shifting Interferometry
TL;DR: Based on the nearly random phase distribution of the diffraction field of the object, a singular formula is derived to calculate the unknown phase shift without the requirements of an iteration process or the selection of the correct value from two or more possible phase shift solutions as needed before as mentioned in this paper.

Correction of wavefront reconstruction errors caused by light source intensity instability in phase-shifting interferometry
TL;DR: In this paper, a simple direct algorithm of digital data processing to correct amplitude and phase errors is proposed and satisfactorily verified by both computer simulations and optical experiments, which can work without specific knowledge of the source intensity fluctuation.

Common form of the complex wave error caused by arbitrary phase shift errors in generalized phase-shifting interferometry and its digital correction
TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that the complex wave error caused by arbitrary phase-shift errors in generalized phase-shifting interferometry (PSI) with arbitrary frames and arbitrary phase shift design takes the common form: a linear combination of the correct complex wave and its conjugation.
