Restrictive Mitral Annuloplasty Cures Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation and Heart Failure

TLDR
Intermediate-term cutoff values for left ventricular reverse remodeling proved to be predictors for late mortality, and for patients with preoperative LVEDD of 65 mm or less, restrictive mitral annuloplasty with revascularization provides a cure for ischemic mitral regurgitation and heart failure; however, whenLVEDD exceeds 65 mm, outcome is poor and a ventricular approach should be considered.

POINT: Efficacy of adding mitral valve restrictive annuloplasty to coronary artery bypass grafting in patients with moderate ischemic mitral valve regurgitation: A randomized trial

TL;DR: The efficacy of adding mitral valve repair to coronary artery bypass grafting is well demonstrated by the improvement of New York Heart Association functional class and percentage of left ventricular ejection fraction and by the decrease of mitral regurgitation grade.

Predictors of Mitral Regurgitation Recurrence in Patients With Heart Failure Undergoing Mitral Valve Annuloplasty

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors identify the echocardiographic predictors of recurrent mitral regurgitation in patients with heart failure undergoing mitral annuloplasty and demonstrate that these predictors are independent determinants of MR at mid-term follow-up.

ACC/AHA 2006 Guidelines for the Management of Patients With Valvular Heart Disease

TL;DR: It is important that the medical profession play a significant role in critically evaluating the use of diagnostic procedures and therapies as they are introduced in the detection, management, and management of diseases.

Ischemic Mitral Regurgitation Long-Term Outcome and Prognostic Implications With Quantitative Doppler Assessment

TL;DR: Patients with previous (>16 days) Q-wave MI by ECG who underwent transthoracic echocardiography found that after 5 years, total mortality and cardiac mortality for patients with IMR were higher than for those without IMR.

Clinical Significance of Mitral Regurgitation After Acute Myocardial Infarction

TL;DR: In this article, the authors analyzed left ventriculograms for diastolic and systolic volumes, global left ventricular sphericity, extent of wall motion abnormality, and endocardial curvature and found that the presence of MR was related to the risk of developing a cardiovascular event during 3.5 years of follow-up.

Recurrent mitral regurgitation after annuloplasty for functional ischemic mitral regurgitation

TL;DR: Although initial mitral valve replacement would eliminate the risk of postoperative mitral regurgitation, this strategy has been associated with reduced survival, and the development of additional techniques is necessary to achieve more secure repair of functional ischemic mitral Regurgitation.
