TLDR
Nineteen strains of bacteria representing 39 genera and one yeast were screened for ability to hydrolyze chitin and the highest ratios were observed for strains in the genera: Bacillus and Serratia, followed by Micrococcus, Aeromonas, Vibrio, Clostridium and Plesiomonas.

Physiology of microbial degradation of chitin and chitosan

TL;DR: Chitin is produced in enormous quantities in the biosphere, chiefly as the major structural component of most fungi and invertebrates, and its degradation is chiefly by bacteria and fungi, by chitinolysis via chitinases, but also via deacetylation to chitosan, which is hydrolysed by chitonases.

Isolation of novel chitinolytic bacteria and production optimization of extracellular chitinase

TL;DR: Chitinase enzyme has received increased attention due to its wide range of biotechnological applications, especially in agriculture for biocontrol of phytopathogenic fungi and harmful insects, and out of metal ions Mn 2+ and Cu 2+ enhanced enzyme production in the case of HS6, however, Co 2+ was the most appropriate for HS4.

Enrichment of chitinolytic microorganisms: isolation and characterization of a chitinase exhibiting antifungal activity against phytopathogenic fungi from a novel Streptomyces strain.

TL;DR: In this article, 13 chitin-degrading bacteria were isolated from soil and sediment samples, and five of these strains (SGE2, SGE4, SSL3, MG1, and MG3) exhibited antifungal activity against phytopathogenic fungi.
