TLDR
In this paper, a simple, statistical, geometric model of multicomponent random disk packing, which ignores the gaps that occur in real packings, is compared with experimental packings.
Abstract
A simple, statistical, geometric model of multicomponent random disk packing, which ignores the gaps that occur in real packings, is compared with experimental packings. The model gives a good qualitative description of the changes that occur in packing structures as the proportions of the disks in a mixture changes, and considers the different types of contact that occur between disks. The average coordinance for disk packings is constant for all mixture proportions.

Mean-field theory of hard sphere glasses and jamming

TL;DR: In this paper, a theory of amorphous packings, and more generally glassy states, of hard spheres that is based on the replica method, gives predictions on the structure and thermodynamics of these states.

The porosity and contact points in multicomponent random sphere packings calculated by a simple statistical geometric model

TL;DR: In this article, the structure of a random packing of spheres with different sizes is reduced to an amenable system composed of known subunits by making one simplifying assumption: that all spheres touch their neighbors.

Interactions of helical polypeptide segments which span the hydrocarbon region of lipid bilayers: Studies of the gramicidin alipid-water system

TL;DR: It is used as a model for the interactions of the polypeptide segments of transmembrane proteins within the hydrocarbon region of the lipid bilayers of biomembrane structures and the various results are discussed to provide insight pertinent to the organisation, interactions, aggregation properties, boundary layer and packing arrangements of helicalpolypeptides and proteins in reconstituted systems and natural biomemBRanes.

A ‘granocentric’ model for random packing of jammed emulsions

TL;DR: In this article, the authors use three-dimensional measurements of packings of polydisperse emulsion droplets to build a simple statistical model in which the complexity of the global packing is distilled into a local stochastic process.

Structural properties of packed beds — A review

TL;DR: Some structural properties of packed bed systems on both the local and overall scales which are available in the literature and of interest in chemical engineering applications are discussed in this paper, where regular and random packings of uniformly sized spheres are initially analyzed as a basis for the later examination of the more general case of random packed beds containing particles of various sizes and shapes, with or without restraining surfaces.
