TLDR
Experiments with hydroxylamine and α-hydrazinophenylacetic acid showed that the rate of loss of enzymic activity during preincubation of the brain homogenate with these agents was less than in absence of inhibitor, a finding consistent with the interpretation that the major mode of inhibition by carbonyltrapping agents is by combination with the holoenzyme.

Journal ArticleDOI

Neurotransmitter-related enzymes in senile dementia of the Alzheimer type.

TL;DR: Large, widespread reductions in the activities of ChAT and AChE were found in tissues from SDAT cases, while GAD activities were reduced in 3 of the 20 regions investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Kainic acid induced seizures: Neurochemical and histopathological changes

TL;DR: The most pronounced behavioural changes were strong immobility, increased incidence of "wet dog shakes", and long-lasting generalized tonic-clonic convulsions, suggesting a strongly increased firing rate of aminergic neurones during the period of generalized seizures.

Epilepsy and gamma-aminobutyric acid-mediated inhibition.

TL;DR: This chapter discusses epilepsy and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) mediated inhibition and the principal sites where GABA produces hyperpolarization of the neuronal membrane, which resembles the physiologically induced inhibitory postsynaptic potential (IPSP).
Book ChapterDOI

Transport and metabolism of glutamate and GABA in neurons are glial cells.

TL;DR: It is undoubtedly correct that these amino acids can be taken up into presynaptic nerve endings through high-affinity transport processes and it is even possible to distinguish between these transport mechanisms employing inhibitors that have been shown to be selective for the transport carriers.
