Summary Report of the AAPOR Task Force on Non-probability Sampling

TLDR
A wide range of non-probability designs exist and are being used in various settings, including case control studies, clinical trials, evaluation research, and more.
Abstract
Survey researchers routinely conduct studies that use different methods of data collection and inference. But for at least the past 60 years, the probabilitysampling framework has been used in most surveys. More recently, concerns about coverage and nonresponse coupled with rising costs have led some to wonder whether non-probability sampling methods might be an acceptable alternative, at least under some conditions (Groves 2006; Savage and Burrows 2007). A wide range of non-probability designs exist and are being used in various settings, including case control studies, clinical trials, evaluation research

Contemporary Guidance for Stated Preference Studies

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a set of guidelines for stated preference studies that are more comprehensive than those of the original National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Blue Ribbon Panel on contingent valuation, and reflect the two decades of research since that time.

Sampling: Design and Analysis

TL;DR: In his seminal book, Shewhart (1931) makes no demand on the distribution of the characteristic to be plotted on a control chart, so how can the idea that normality is, if not required, at least highly desirable be explained?

The central role of the propensity score in observational studies for causal effects

Paul R. Rosenbaum, +1 more
- 01 Apr 1983 -
TL;DR: The authors discusses the central role of propensity scores and balancing scores in the analysis of observational studies and shows that adjustment for the scalar propensity score is sufficient to remove bias due to all observed covariates.

Birds of a Feather: Homophily in Social Networks

TL;DR: The homophily principle as mentioned in this paper states that similarity breeds connection, and that people's personal networks are homogeneous with regard to many sociodemographic, behavioral, and intrapersonal characteristics.

Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Designs for Generalized Causal Inference

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present experiments and generalized Causal inference methods for single and multiple studies, using both control groups and pretest observations on the outcome of the experiment, and a critical assessment of their assumptions.

Statistical Analysis With Missing Data

TL;DR: Generalized Estimating Equations is a good introductory book for analyzing continuous and discrete correlated data using GEE methods and provides good guidance for analyzing correlated data in biomedical studies and survey studies.
