The Added Role of MR Imaging in Treatment Stratification of Patients with Gynecologic Malignancies: What the Radiologist Needs to Know

TLDR
The purpose of this review is to highlight the added role of MR imaging in the treatment stratification and overall care of patients with endometrial, cervical, or ovarian cancer.
Abstract
Advances in MR imaging techniques, along with the growing role of the radiologist as part of a multidisciplinary treatment-planning team, have become central in tailoring treatment options and frequently lead to modifications in the therapeutic approach in patients with gynecologic malignancies.

Application of magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosis of Uterus Cervical Carcinoma.

TL;DR: MRI is suitable to evaluate tumor extent with high accuracy, and it can offer more objective information for the diagnosis and staging of UCC, compared with clinical examinations based on FIGO.

Imaging to optimize gynecological radiation oncology

TL;DR: MRI provides the greatest assistance in evaluating the local extent of gynecological tumors, including initial evaluation for non-operative endometrial and vulvar cancer, and assessment before, after and during brachytherapy for cervix, locally recurrentendometrial, and primary vaginal cancers.

[Gynecological tumors of the true pelvis: Radiological diagnosis for pelvic tumors made simple].

TL;DR: Whereas MRI has become established as the modality of choice for local staging and treatment planning in cancers of the uterine cervix and endometrial cancer, CT is used for staging of ovarian cancer due to the propensity for peritoneal spread outside the pelvis at the time of initial diagnosis.

Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging as a Cancer Biomarker: Consensus and Recommendations

TL;DR: DW-MRI should be tested as an imaging biomarker in the context of well-defined clinical trials, by adding DW-MRI to existing NCI-sponsored trials, particularly those with tissue sampling or survival indicators, and standards for measurement, analysis, and display are needed.
