Plasma-assisted ignition and combustion

TL;DR: The use of a thermal equilibrium plasma for combustion control dates back more than a hundred years to the advent of internal combustion (IC) engines and spark ignition systems and the same principles are still applied today to achieve high efficiency in various applications as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

The UMIST Database for Astrochemistry 2006

TL;DR: The UMIST Database for Astrochemistry as discussed by the authors contains some 4573 binary gas-phase reactions, an increase of 10% from the previous (1999) version, among 420 species, of which 23 are new to the database.
Journal ArticleDOI

Global model of low-temperature atmospheric-pressure He + H2O plasmas

TL;DR: In this article, a detailed global model of atmospheric pressure He + H2O plasmas is presented, which incorporates 46 species and 577 reactions, based on simulation results obtained with this comprehensive model, the main species and reactions are identified, and simplified models capable of capturing the main physicochemical processes in He+H2O discharges are suggested.

Investigating the cosmic-ray ionization rate in the galactic diffuse interstellar medium through observations of h+ 3

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors conducted a survey of diffuse cloud sight lines with H{sup + {sub 3} observations to 50, with detections in 21 of those, and inferred ionization rates in the range (1.7 {+-} 1.6 {+)-8.4 Multiplication-Sign 10{sup -16} s{sup-1} with a mean value of {zeta}{sub 2} = (3.5 {sup + 5.3}{sub -3}.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling CO formation in the turbulent interstellar medium

TL;DR: In this paper, high-resolution 3D simulations of turbulent interstellar gas that self-consistently follow its coupled thermal, chemical and dynamical evolution, with a particular focus on the formation and destruction of H 2 and CO are presented.

Mechanisms of soot nucleation in flames—A critical review

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a mechanism for soot formation in a premixed laminar flame, where chemiions are assumed to be the precursor on which the free radicals, polyacetylenes, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons repeatedly add in fast ion-molecule reactions.
