The effects of ACTH, adrenalectomy and dexamethasone on the acquisition of an avoidance response in rats.

TLDR
The action of ACTH on avoidance conditioning is clearly extra-adrenal, but ACTH is not essential to normal performance, at least when high levels of glucocorticoids are present.

Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of ACTH on conditioned suppression: a time and strength of conditioning analysis.

TL;DR: The effects of ACTH injections on acquisition and retention of a conditioned-suppression response were measured as a function of the time of training and the duration of the conditioned stimulus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhancement and disruption of retention performance by ACTH in a choice task.

TL;DR: ACTH was shown to affect retention performance of normal rats in a choice task and it was concluded that ACTH acts upon some residual (memory?) from the learning experience.
Journal ArticleDOI

The pituitary-adrenocortical system is not involved in the sex difference in passive avoidance.

TL;DR: In this article, a high dose of dexamethasone (500 microg/kg body weight) was injected in male and female rats in order to suppress the activity of the pituitary-adrenocortical system.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effect of dexamethasone-21-acetate on meal size, meal frequency and macronutrient self-selection in rats.

TL;DR: It is suggested that this change in macronutrient selection may be an adaptive response which serves to ameliorate some of the effects of DEX treatment.

Some Studies of the Protein-Binding of Steroids and Their Application to the Routine Micro and Ultramicro Measurement of Various Steroids in Body Fluids by Competitive Protein-Binding Radioassay

TL;DR: A 100-fold increase in sensitivity has now been achieved by using tritiated steroids in place of 14C-labeled steroids, by utilizing the CBG's of species other than man, and by using adsorption in Place of dialysis or gel filtration.

Long Term and Short Term Effects on Retention of a Conditioned Avoidance Response in Rats by Treatment with Long Acting Pitressin and α-MSH

TL;DR: It is found that the rapid extinction of a CAR which occurs after posterior lobectomy or hypophysectomy can be prevented by treatment with ACTH, melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) or lysine vasopressin given during the extinction period.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inhibitory Effect of ACTH and Related Peptides on Extinction of Conditioned Avoidance Behavior in Rats

TL;DR: ACTH, administered during extinction, delays extinction of an avoidance response in rats and results were interpreted to indicate that the active part of ACTH in this respect is located in the N-terminal part of the molecule, presumably in the first 10 amino acids.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of anterior pituitary on avoidance learning and escape behavior.

TL;DR: Adenohypophysectomized rats were subjected to an avoidance learning procedure and only 6 of 21 rats achieved the conditioning criterion against 14 of 18 sham-operated controls.
