The empirical mode decomposition and the Hilbert spectrum for nonlinear and non-stationary time series analysis

TLDR
In this paper, a new method for analysing nonlinear and nonstationary data has been developed, which is the key part of the method is the empirical mode decomposition method with which any complicated data set can be decoded.

Near-surface wind characteristics of extreme thunderstorm outflows

TL;DR: In this paper, a large-scale experiment was conducted in 2002, during which seven mobile towers were deployed in a linear array to obtain high-resolution data from outflows and two extreme events were captured: a rear-flank downdraft of a supercell, and a derecho.

Sleep stage classification from heart-rate variability using long short-term memory neural networks

TL;DR: A long short-term memory (LSTM) network is proposed as a solution to model long-term cardiac sleep architecture information and validated on a comprehensive data set, demonstrating the merit of deep temporal modelling using a diverse data set and advancing the state-of-the-art for HRV-based sleep stage classification.

Long-term trends of surface ozone and its influencing factors at the Mt Waliguan GAW station, China – Part 1: Overall trends and characteristics

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors performed the Mann-Kendall trend test and the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) analysis on the ozone data, which revealed that the mountain-valley breeze plays an important role in the diurnal cycle of surface ozone at Waliguan, resulting in higher ozone values during the night and lower ones during the day.

Early chatter identification based on an optimized variational mode decomposition

TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a method of online chatter identification for milling processes, where optimized variational mode decomposition (OVMD) is used to decompose cutting force measurements, and the sub-components containing chatter information are extracted using a simulated annealing (SA) algorithm.

An integrated GPS-accelerometer data processing technique for structural deformation monitoring

TL;DR: The proposed data processing techniques can significantly enhance the measurement accuracy of the total displacement of a structure and are compared with the actual displacement motions generated by the motion simulation table.

Deterministic nonperiodic flow

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that nonperiodic solutions are ordinarily unstable with respect to small modifications, so that slightly differing initial states can evolve into considerably different states, and systems with bounded solutions are shown to possess bounded numerical solutions.

Mathematical analysis of random noise

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the representations of the noise currents given in Section 2.8 to derive some statistical properties of I(t) and its zeros and maxima.
