TLDR
In this paper, the acquisition and use of digital images in a wide variety of scientific fields is discussed. But the focus is on high dynamic range imaging in more than two dimensions.Abstract:
"This guide clearly explains the acquisition and use of digital images in a wide variety of scientific fields. This sixth edition features new sections on selecting a camera with resolution appropriate for use on light microscopes, on the ability of current cameras to capture raw images with high dynamic range, and on imaging in more than two dimensions. It discusses Dmax for X-ray images and combining images with different exposure settings to further extend the dynamic range. This edition also includes a new chapter on shape measurements, a review of new developments in image file searching, and a wide range of new examples and diagrams"read more

Instrumental Evaluation of Fabric Pilling
TL;DR: In this article, a template-matching technique is used for extracting pills from the non-periodic image and measurements on the ASTM photographic standards are used to build the empirical grading equations of fabric-pilling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Image Based Analysis of Complex Microstructures of Engineering Materials
TL;DR: The paper presents various methods for quantitative description of material structures based on image analysis and it is shown that the methods applied are useful for the assessment of service degradation of materials.

Visualizing PI3 kinase-mediated cell-cell signaling during Dictyostelium development
TL;DR: It is shown that polarized periodic CRAC-GFP translocation occurs during the aggregation and mound stages of development in response to periodic cAMP signals, and measuring the redistribution of GFP-tagged CRAC has enabled us to study the dynamics of PI3 kinase-mediated cell-cell communication at the individual cell level in the multicellular stages of Dictyostelium development.

TL;DR: It appears that CAD using volumetric and contrast-enhanced data has the potential to assist radiologists in the task of differentiating solitary pulmonary nodules and in the management of these patients.

Elastic properties of nematoid arrangements formed by amoeboid cells
TL;DR: It is proposed that elastic properties of these nematoid structures can be described in analogy to that of classical nematic liquid crystals.
