TLDR
In this paper, the acquisition and use of digital images in a wide variety of scientific fields is discussed. But the focus is on high dynamic range imaging in more than two dimensions.Abstract:
"This guide clearly explains the acquisition and use of digital images in a wide variety of scientific fields. This sixth edition features new sections on selecting a camera with resolution appropriate for use on light microscopes, on the ability of current cameras to capture raw images with high dynamic range, and on imaging in more than two dimensions. It discusses Dmax for X-ray images and combining images with different exposure settings to further extend the dynamic range. This edition also includes a new chapter on shape measurements, a review of new developments in image file searching, and a wide range of new examples and diagrams"read more

CASDES: A Computer-Aided System to Support Dry Eye Diagnosis Based on Tear Film Maps
TL;DR: CASDES, a computer-aided system to support the diagnosis of dry eye syndrome, is presented, which outperforms the previous attempts to create tear film maps and provides reliable results in comparison with the clinicians' annotations.
Journal ArticleDOI
A combined SEM–Calorimetric approach for assessing hydration and porosity development in GGBS concrete
TL;DR: In this article, a combination of semi-adiabatic calorimetry and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is employed for characterising the hydration process and pore structure development of cementitious pastes.

Use of X-ray micro computed tomography imaging to analyze the morphology of wheat grain through its development.

TL;DR: This work shows that μCT acquisitions and image processing methodologies are powerful tools to extract morphometric parameters of developing wheat grain from 3D μCT images.

Analysis of Diesel engine combustion using imaging and independent component analysis
TL;DR: In this article, the first attempt of application of independent component analysis (ICA) to 2D images of combustion-related luminosity is reported, where two main independent components are extracted from sets of luminosity images, and the coefficients of the ICs are then used for further analysis, to study the transient during a single cycle, and for the assessment of cycle variability, along with data of dynamic in-cylinder pressure, rate of heat release and integral luminosity.

Representation of a single vibrissa in the rat neostriatum: peaks of energy metabolism reveal a distributed functional module.
TL;DR: In unanaesthetized rats, mechanical stimulation of a single vibrissa increased glucose utilization in one cortical column of the somatosensory area and in several spots in the dorsolateral neostriatum, predominantly on the side contralateral to the stimulation.
