TLDR
In this paper, the acquisition and use of digital images in a wide variety of scientific fields is discussed. But the focus is on high dynamic range imaging in more than two dimensions.
Abstract
"This guide clearly explains the acquisition and use of digital images in a wide variety of scientific fields. This sixth edition features new sections on selecting a camera with resolution appropriate for use on light microscopes, on the ability of current cameras to capture raw images with high dynamic range, and on imaging in more than two dimensions. It discusses Dmax for X-ray images and combining images with different exposure settings to further extend the dynamic range. This edition also includes a new chapter on shape measurements, a review of new developments in image file searching, and a wide range of new examples and diagrams"

Preprocessing Techniques in Character Recognition

TL;DR: The main task in preprocessing the captured data is to decrease the variation that causes a reduction in the recognition rate and increases the complexities, as for example, preprocessing of the input raw stroke of characters is crucial for the success of efficient character recognition systems.

In Situ Characterization of Extracellular Polymeric Substances (EPS) in Biofilm Systems

TL;DR: For example, microbial polysaccharides represent a structural feature of the microbial cell; therefore they were investigated for pure and basic research interests as discussed by the authors. But, their structure and properties were not studied for pure or basic research interest.

Distribution of Microtubule-Associated Protein MAP2-Immunoreactive Interstitial Neurons in the Parahippocampal White Matter in Subjects With Schizophrenia

TL;DR: There is an abnormality in the residua of the cortical subplate in the anterior region of the adult parahippocampal gyrus in schizophrenia subjects, indicating an alteration in the migration of subplate neurons or in the pattern of programmed cell death that could lead to defective cortical circuitry and impaired cognition.

Employing multiple-kernel support vector machines for counterfeit banknote recognition

TL;DR: Experiments with Taiwanese banknotes show that the proposed approach outperforms single-kernel SVMs, standard SVMs with SDP, and multiple-SVM classifiers.

Rheological and fractal characteristics of granular sludge in an upflow anaerobic reactor

TL;DR: The rheological and fractal characteristics of the granular sludge in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor were investigated and the Bingham model was adopted to adequately describe its rheology.
