TLDR
In this paper, the acquisition and use of digital images in a wide variety of scientific fields is discussed. But the focus is on high dynamic range imaging in more than two dimensions.
Abstract
"This guide clearly explains the acquisition and use of digital images in a wide variety of scientific fields. This sixth edition features new sections on selecting a camera with resolution appropriate for use on light microscopes, on the ability of current cameras to capture raw images with high dynamic range, and on imaging in more than two dimensions. It discusses Dmax for X-ray images and combining images with different exposure settings to further extend the dynamic range. This edition also includes a new chapter on shape measurements, a review of new developments in image file searching, and a wide range of new examples and diagrams"

FIB-Nanotomography of Particulate Systems—Part II: Particle Recognition and Effect of Boundary Truncation

TL;DR: In this paper, a watershed approach for 3D particle recognition that tolerates concavities on the particle surfaces is presented, and two basic approaches for the stereological correction of the truncation effects are proposed and validated on artificially modeled particle data.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhancement of needle visibility in ultrasound-guided percutaneous procedures.

TL;DR: A needle enhancement algorithm is developed that maximizes the received reflections by steering the US beam precisely perpendicular to the needle by automatically detecting the needle in the image and maintaining the appropriate beam steering angle during the procedure.

Boring crustaceans damage polystyrene floats under docks polluting marine waters with microplastic

TL;DR: Results reveal boring isopods cause widespread damage to docks and are a novel source of microplastic pollution, suggesting this foam may prevent damage in the field.
Journal ArticleDOI

Registration of 6-DOFs electrogoniometry and CT medical imaging for 3D joint modeling

TL;DR: A method in which two data-collecting systems, medical imaging and electrogoniometry, are combined to allow the accurate and simultaneous modeling of both the spatial kinematics and the morphological surface of a particular joint is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

A simple algorithm for measuring particle size distributions on an uneven background from TEM images.

TL;DR: A simple computer algorithm for measuring particle size distributions from TEM images in the presence of an uneven background is described, based on adaptive thresholding, making use of local threshold values that change with spatial coordinate.
