Are You Really Going to Read Us A Story? Learning Geometry Through Children's Mathematics Literature

TL;DR: This article analyzed how one teacher used contemporary children's literature to supplement middle-grades geometry and found that the students in the children literature group showed markedly improved performance in geometry, showing fluency with geometry vocabulary, demonstrated flexibility in the application of geometry concepts, explained formulae with rich descriptions, and outperformed the non story group on geometry ability when controlling for pretest performance.

Emergence of representation in drawing: the relation between kinematic and referential aspects

TL;DR: This paper examined scribbles of 2- to 3-year-olds from kinematic and representational perspectives, finding that children tend to attribute a-posteriori representational meanings to angular curves and nonrepresentational meanings (e.g., a line) to smooth curves, that they have just finished drawing.
