The Validity of Value-added Estimates from Low-Stakes Testing Contexts: The Impact of Change in Test-Taking Motivation and Test Consequences
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the effects of test consequence conditions on value-added estimates of student learning gains via achievement tests and find that test consequences did not impact value added estimates, but change in test-taking motivation had a substantial effect.
Journal ArticleDOI
Critical Factors to Consider in Evaluating Standard-Setting Studies to Map Language Test Scores to Frameworks of Language Proficiency
TL;DR: This article consolidates and presents in one place what is known about quality indicators for setting standards so that stakeholders may be able to recognize the signs of standard-setting quality, and offers guidance to policymakers, decision makers, and researchers about important factors they may consider to evaluate the rigor and credibility of standards studies conducted.

A Study of General Education Astronomy Students’ Understandings of Cosmology. Part V. The Effects of a New Suite of Cosmology Lecture-Tutorials on Students’ Conceptual Knowledge
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe the teaching and learning of cosmology in general education astronomy college-level courses and conduct a systematic investigation of the implementation of these new lecture-tutorials and resulting learning gains.
Journal ArticleDOI
Psychometric testing of the Jefferson Scale of Empathy Health Profession Students' version with Australian paramedic students.
TL;DR: Results from the confirmatory factor analysis suggest that the 17-item Jefferson Scale Empathy-Health Profession Students' version is a valid and reliable measure for undergraduate paramedic students' empathy levels.

Cutoff criteria for fit indexes in covariance structure analysis : Conventional criteria versus new alternatives
Li-tze Hu,Peter M. Bentler +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the adequacy of the conventional cutoff criteria and several new alternatives for various fit indexes used to evaluate model fit in practice were examined, and the results suggest that, for the ML method, a cutoff value close to.95 for TLI, BL89, CFI, RNI, and G...

Convergent and discriminant validation by the multitrait-multimethod matrix.
TL;DR: This transmutability of the validation matrix argues for the comparisons within the heteromethod block as the most generally relevant validation data, and illustrates the potential interchangeability of trait and method components.

Evaluating Goodness-of-Fit Indexes for Testing Measurement Invariance
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the change in the goodness-of-fit index (GFI) when cross-group constraints are imposed on a measurement model and found that the change was independent of both model complexity and sample size.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Review and Synthesis of the Measurement Invariance Literature: Suggestions, Practices, and Recommendations for Organizational Research
TL;DR: The establishment of measurement invariance across groups is a logical prerequisite to conducting substantive cross-group comparisons (e.g., tests of group mean differences, invariance of structura, etc.).
