Selection of roosting habitats by Nyctalus noctula and Nyctalus leisleri in Białowieża Forest—Adaptive response to forest management?
TL;DR: In this article, the authors used GIS techniques to evaluate bats' spatial response to changes in forest structure and to test the hypotheses that the forest dwelling bats Nyctalus noctula and Nyctalis leisleri prefer roost sites within old deciduous or wet woodlands over young and coniferous ones and that roost site preferences reflect the extent to which dead and dying trees are removed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Range Selection by Semi-Domesticated Reindeer {Rangifer tarandus tarandus) in Relation to Infrastructure and Human Activity in the Boreal Forest Environment, Northern Finland
TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied how seven human activities (population centres, buildings, main roads, forest roads, snowmobile tracks, skiing trails, and gold digging areas) affect the range selection by semi-domesticated reindeer in northern Finnish Lapland.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamic Bayesian beta models
TL;DR: A dynamic Bayesian beta model is developed for modeling and forecasting single time series of rates or proportions, based on approximate analysis relying on Bayesian linear estimation, nonlinear system of equations solution and Gaussian quadrature.

Lasius niger ants discriminate aphids based on their cuticular hydrocarbons
TL;DR: This work investigated whether ants recognize potential trophobiont aphids based on their behaviour, morphological or chemical properties, and showed that myrmecophilous and nonmyrmecphilous species could be differentiatedbased on their cuticular hydrocarbons, in particular their n-alkane composition.
Journal ArticleDOI
An integrated assessment of land-use change impact, seasonal variation of pollution indices and human health risk of selected toxic elements in sediments of River Atuwara, Nigeria.

TL;DR: Analysis of selected toxic and potentially toxic metal(oid)s (TPTM) (Cu, As, Cd, Pb, Ni, Cr, Zn, Fe, Co and Al) using ICP-OES, pollution index assessment, potential source identification, potential ecological, and human health risk assessment highlighted the need for prompt action towards the restoration of environmental quality for communities surrounding River Atuwara.

Problems of relative growth
TL;DR: This detailed study of the different rates of growth of parts of the body relative to the body as a whole represents Sir Julian Huxley's great contribution to analytical morphology, and it is still a basis for modern investigations in morphometrics and evolutionary biology.

Experiments with Mixtures: Designs, Models and the Analysis of Mixture Data
TL;DR: In this paper, the original Mixture Problem is described and models for exploring the Entire Simplex Factor Space are presented, including matrix algebra, least squares, and the analysis of variance.
New statistical methods for allometry with application to
TL;DR: In this paper, Mosimann et al. presented new statistical methods for the study of size and shape, and used these methods to study the morphology of red-winged blackbirds, Agelaius phoeniceus breeding in Florida.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of dispersion on a sphere
TL;DR: In this article, a series of approximate tests of significance is given for hypotheses about the precision constant K and the polar vector on a sphere, where 8' is the angle between the polar and observation vectors.
