Patterns of trait divergence between populations of the meadow grasshopper, Chorthippus parallelus.

TL;DR: A comparison of patterns of divergence between populations of the meadow grasshopper Chorthippus parallelus reveals that long periods in allopatry and processes associated with repeated founder events are both strongly associated with divergence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Multivariate statistics coupled to generalized linear models reveal complex use of chemical cues by a parasitoid.

TL;DR: This work coupled principal components analysis (PCA) and generalized linear models (GLMs) to link volatiles released by plants in response to pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum, feeding directly to the behaviour of the aphid parasitoid Aphidius ervi, suggesting the approach could be valuable for behavioural studies on multisensory orientation by foraging animals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Response of the Aphid Parasitoid Aphidius funebris to Volatiles from Undamaged and Aphid-infested Centaurea nigra

TL;DR: This paper studied the noncrop system involving the plant Centaurea nigra, the specialist aphid Uroleucon jaceae, and the parasitoid Aphidius funebris, using a compositional approach, which treats each compound produced as part of a blend, and not as a compound released in isolation, thus allowing analysis of the relative contribution of each compound to the blend as a whole.
Journal ArticleDOI

The flexibility of an intermediate feeder: dietary selection by mountain hares measured using faecal n-alkanes

TL;DR: The ability to browse or graze represents a flexible foraging strategy permitting survival and production through periods of changing or unpredictable forage quality and availability and the underlying ecological causes of the seasonal dietary shift in a small non-ruminant intermediate feeder – the mountain or arctic hare were determined.

Problems of relative growth

Julian Huxley
TL;DR: This detailed study of the different rates of growth of parts of the body relative to the body as a whole represents Sir Julian Huxley's great contribution to analytical morphology, and it is still a basis for modern investigations in morphometrics and evolutionary biology.

Experiments with Mixtures: Designs, Models and the Analysis of Mixture Data

TL;DR: In this paper, the original Mixture Problem is described and models for exploring the Entire Simplex Factor Space are presented, including matrix algebra, least squares, and the analysis of variance.

New statistical methods for allometry with application to

TL;DR: In this paper, Mosimann et al. presented new statistical methods for the study of size and shape, and used these methods to study the morphology of red-winged blackbirds, Agelaius phoeniceus breeding in Florida.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of dispersion on a sphere

TL;DR: In this article, a series of approximate tests of significance is given for hypotheses about the precision constant K and the polar vector on a sphere, where 8' is the angle between the polar and observation vectors.
