The synthesis of mouse hemoglobin chains in a rabbit reticulocyte cell-free system programmed with mouse reticulocyte 9S RNA

TLDR
The 9S RNA fraction of mouse reticulocyte polysomes has been purified and shown to direct the synthesis of mouse hemoglobin β- chains in a mammalian cell-free system under the direction of a mRNA isolated from a different mammalian species.

Efficient Translation of Tobacco Mosaic Virus RNA and Rabbit Globin 9S RNA in a Cell-Free System from Commercial Wheat Germ

TL;DR: The in vitro product directed by globin 9S RNA comigrated precisely with authentic rabbit globin on sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gels during high voltage ionophoresis, and two [(35)S]methionine-labeled tryptic peptides synthesized in vitro comigrated in two dimensions with alphaT5 and betaT5 tryptic amino-acid incorporation from authentic [( 35)S].

Transcriptional regulation of the ovalbumin and conalbumin genes by steroid hormones in chick oviduct.

TL;DR: Relative rates of ovalbumin and conalbumin mRNA transcription were measured in isolated oviduct nuclei by allowing endogenous RNA polymerases to synthesize [32P]RNA that was then hybridized to immobilized recombinant DNA containing the respective gene sequences.

A possible precursor of immunoglobulin light chains

TL;DR: A clear discrepancy is reported between the product of certain cell-free reactions and authentic light chain and it is proposed that light chains are initially synthesized as a precursor of slightly higher molecular weight and subsequently converted into the authentic product.

Factors affecting the rate of protein synthesis in lysate systems from reticulocytes.

TL;DR: Exogenous hemin increases the extent of de novo synthesis of hemoglobin and, at 28 °, greatly retards disaggregation of polysomes that accompanies protein synthesis in the lysate.

Synthesis of rabbit globin by a bacterial cell free system.

TL;DR: A cell free system from E. coli primed with an RNA preparation from rabbit reticulocytes produces a material having properties of rabbit globin, and the presence of N-acetyl-valyl-tRNA seems essential.

The Search for the Messenger RNA of Hemoglobin

TL;DR: The fact that the polypeptides made in vitro correspond to hemoglobin, shows that the system is correctly phased, and it should be possible to detect its ultraviolet light absorption, by merely scaling up the operations, by a factor of ten.

Characteristics of the inhibition of hemoglobin synthesis in rabbit reticulocytes by threo-alpha-amino-beta-chlorobutyric acid.

TL;DR: The block in hemoglobin synthesis is caused by substitution of the analogue for valine at specific valine sites, and it is suggested that the loci of these substitutions may be the Val-Val residues on the precursor protein of the β-chain.
