Two-Stage DEA: An Application to Major League Baseball
TLDR
In this article, the authors use DEA to model DMUs that produce in two stages, with output from the first stage becoming input to the second stage, and apply the model to Major League Baseball, demonstrating its advantages over a standard DEA model.Abstract:
We show how to use DEA to model DMUs that produce in two stages, with output from the first stage becoming input to the second stage. Our model allows for any orientation or scale assumption. We apply the model to Major League Baseball, demonstrating its advantages over a standard DEA model. Our model detects inefficiencies that standard DEA models miss, and it can allow for resource consumption that the standard DEA model counts towards inefficiency. Additionally, our model distinguishes inefficiency in the first stage from that in the second stage, allowing managers to target inefficient stages of the production process.read more

Efficiency stability region for two-stage production processes with intermediate products
Mohammad Khoveyni,Robabeh Eslami +1 more
TL;DR: This study contributes to network DEA by proposing a novel approach to tackle the problem of finding efficiency stability regions (ESRs) for efficient DMUs and introduces a linear DEA model to specify the extreme network-efficient two-stage production processes.

Measuring Pitchers' Performance Using Data Envelopment Analysis with Advanced Statistics
TL;DR: Wu et al. as mentioned in this paper used data envelopment analysis (DEA) based on two inputs (i.e., innings pitched [IPs] and per pitched innings) and three outputs (fielding independent pitching, earned run average [ERA], and skill-interactive ERA) to evaluate the performance of the 30 MLB teams' starting pitchers with IPs greater than 200 in each single season (2008 to 2014, regular season only).

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) and market efficiency of China’s commercial banks under market competition
TL;DR: In this article , the authors explored the market share of banks as exogenous variables in the profit stage and the market and sustainability stage to investigate the efficiency of 20 listed banks in China over 2016-2020 and innovatively incorporated indicators such as green credit, social giving, executive compensation, and ESG score into the meta-dynamic two-stage SBM under the exogenous variable DEA model.

Productivity and Intermediate Products: A Frontier Approach

TL;DR: In this article, the authors introduce a frontier model for productivity measurement that explicitly recognizes that some inputs are produced and consumed within the production technology, where intermediate inputs may also be final output.

TL;DR: It is found that the decomposition of production into subproduction processes reduces the dimensions of problem specification, with the effect that a larger number of variables may be usefully included in the model.
