TLDR
A new collection of treebanks with homogeneous syntactic dependency annotation for six languages: German, English, Swedish, Spanish, French and Korean is presented, made freely available in order to facilitate research on multilingual dependency parsing.Abstract:
We present a new collection of treebanks with homogeneous syntactic dependency annotation for six languages: German, English, Swedish, Spanish, French and Korean. To show the usefulness of such a resource, we present a case study of crosslingual transfer parsing with more reliable evaluation than has been possible before. This ‘universal’ treebank is made freely available in order to facilitate research on multilingual dependency parsing. 1read more

Yet Another Format of Universal Dependencies for Korean
Yige Chen,Eunkyul Leah Jo,Yundong Yao,KyungTae Lim,Miikka Silfverberg,Francis M. Tyers,Jungyeul Park +6 more
TL;DR: The linguistic rationale that illustrates the motivation and the necessity of adopting the morpheme-based format is presented, and scripts that convert between the original format used by Universal Dependencies and the proposed morphemed format au-tomatically are developed.
Improving Computer Network Operations Through Automated Interpretation of State
TL;DR: This research presents a novel approach called “Smart grids” that automates the very labor-intensive and therefore time-heavy and expensive and therefore expensive process of designing and implementing smart grids.

gdbank: The beginnings of a corpus of dependency structures and type-logical grammar in Scottish Gaelic
TL;DR: The gdbank corpus as mentioned in this paper is a small hand-built corpus of 32 sentences with dependency structures and categorial grammar type assignments, chosen to illustrate as broad a range of the unusual features of Scottish Gaelic as possible, particularly nouns being used to represent psychological states where more thoroughly-studied languages such as English and French would prefer a verb, and prepositions marking aspect.

Segmentation for Domain Adaptation in Arabic
Mohammed Attia,Ali Elkahky +1 more
TL;DR: It is proved that segmentation and base normalization of dialects can help in domain adaptation by reducing data sparseness and remarkably improves POS tagging for dialects by 7.37% f-score, even though no dialect-specific POS training data is included.

Automatic Cross-Lingual Similarization of Dependency Grammars for Tree-based Machine Translation.
TL;DR: The algorithm similarizes the annotation styles of the dependency grammars for two languages in the level of classification decisions, and gradually improves the cross-lingual similarity without losing linguistic knowledge resorting to iterative crosslingual cooperative learning.

Building a large annotated corpus of English: the penn treebank
TL;DR: As a result of this grant, the researchers have now published on CDROM a corpus of over 4 million words of running text annotated with part-of- speech (POS) tags, which includes a fully hand-parsed version of the classic Brown corpus.

Accurate Unlexicalized Parsing
Dan Klein,Christopher D. Manning +1 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that an unlexicalized PCFG can parse much more accurately than previously shown, by making use of simple, linguistically motivated state splits, which break down false independence assumptions latent in a vanilla treebank grammar.

Generating Typed Dependency Parses from Phrase Structure Parses
TL;DR: A system for extracting typed dependency parses of English sentences from phrase structure parses that captures inherent relations occurring in corpus texts that can be critical in real-world applications is described.

CoNLL-X Shared Task on Multilingual Dependency Parsing
Sabine Buchholz,Erwin Marsi +1 more
TL;DR: How treebanks for 13 languages were converted into the same dependency format and how parsing performance was measured is described and general conclusions about multi-lingual parsing are drawn.

The Stanford Typed Dependencies Representation
TL;DR: This paper examines the Stanford typed dependencies representation, which was designed to provide a straightforward description of grammatical relations for any user who could benefit from automatic text understanding, and considers the underlying design principles of the Stanford scheme.
