Validation of a field spinal motion restriction protocol in a level I trauma center

TLDR
Guidelines for cervical SMR have high sensitivity and low specificity to identify CSI and patients with CSI who arrived without immobilization having met field clearance guidelines, were managed without intervention, and had no neurologic compromise.

Chinese expert consensus on the treatment of modern combat-related spinal injuries.

TL;DR: An expert consensus is reached, based on spine trauma epidemiology and the concepts of battlefield treatment combined with the existing levels of military medical care in modern warfare, that first aid, emergency treatment and early treatment of spine trauma are introduced separately in three levels in this consensus.
Journal ArticleDOI

Epidemiology and predictors of traumatic spine injury in severely injured patients: implications for emergency procedures.

TL;DR: In addition to the clinical symptoms of pain, ‘4S’ is identified as an indication for increased attention for CSIs or indication for spinal motion restriction in patients over 65 years of age.
Journal ArticleDOI

Factors which affect the application and implementation of a spinal motion restriction protocol by prehospital providers in a low resource setting: A scoping review

TL;DR: In this paper , a focused scoping review of published literature on the pre-hospital use of clinical c-spine clearance and spinal motion restriction decision tools in adult blunt trauma patients is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Immo Traffic Light System as a Decision-Making Tool for Prehospital Spinal Immobilization-A Systematic Review.

TL;DR: High-quality studies demonstrating the benefit of prehospital spinal immobilization are still lacking and decision tools such as the Immo traffic light system can help weigh up the pros and cons of immobilization.

TL;DR: In this article, Probable Inference, the Law of Succession, and Statistical Inference are discussed, with a focus on the law of succession in probabilistic inference.

Validity of a set of clinical criteria to rule out injury to the cervical spine in patients with blunt trauma. National Emergency X-Radiography Utilization Study Group.

TL;DR: A prospective, observational study of a set of clinical criteria that can identify patients who have an extremely low probability of injury and who consequently have no need for imaging studies, which identified all but 8 of the 818 patients who had cervical-spine injury.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Canadian C-Spine Rule versus the NEXUS Low-Risk Criteria in Patients with Trauma

TL;DR: For alert patients with trauma who are in stable condition, the CCR is superior to the NLC with respect to sensitivity and specificity for cervical-spine injury, and its use would result in reduced rates of radiography.
