Validity index for crisp and fuzzy clusters

TLDR
A cluster validity index and its fuzzification is described, which can provide a measure of goodness of clustering on different partitions of a data set, and results demonstrating the superiority of the PBM-index in appropriately determining the number of clusters are provided.

Integrating cluster validity indices based on data envelopment analysis

TL;DR: A new cluster validity index, named Charnes, Cooper & Rhodes − cluster validity (CCR-CV), is proposed by integrating eight internal clustering efficiency measures based on data envelopment analysis (DEA) and demonstrates superior ability to determine the optimal and plausible cluster structures compared to benchmark individual validity indices.

Fully unsupervised inter-individual IR spectral histology of paraffinized tissue sections of normal colon.

TL;DR: This procedure consisted of a joint Extended Multiplicative Signal Correction to numerically deparaffinize the tissue sections, followed by an automated joint K‐Means (KM) clustering using the hierarchical double application of Pakhira‐Bandyopadhyay‐Maulik (PBM) validity index.

A new data mining methodology for generating new service ideas

TL;DR: A system framework is proposed in which all association rules are clustered using a new similarity measure and for the first time, the real satisfaction levels are embedded into the association rules to enrich them in an innovative way.

Visual Approaches for Exploratory Data Analysis: A Survey of the Visual Assessment of Clustering Tendency (VAT) Family of Algorithms

TL;DR: An important category of algorithms in this domain includes visual approaches, represented here by the visual assessment of tendency (VAT) algorithm, which reorders the pairwise dissimilarity matrix and then generates a reordered Dissimilarity image (RDI) or cluster heat map that shows possible clusters in the data by dark blocks along the diagonal.

An enhanced classification method comprising a genetic algorithm, rough set theory and a modified PBMF-index function

TL;DR: The results show that the proposed GRP-index method not only has a better discretization performance than the considered methods, but also achieves a better accuracy of approximation, and therefore provides a more reliable basis for the extraction of decision-making rules.
