TLDR
In this article, a 1/36 two-dimensional model of the Islay prototype wave power station was used to assess the influence of geometry changes on the hydraulic performance, and it was found that large vortices developed around the comparatively thin front wall for in- and outflow and internal sloshing occurs during the inflow period.

Overview and Initial Operational Experience of the LIMPET Wave Energy Plant

TL;DR: The LIMPET wave energy device was constructed on the island of Islay, Scotland as mentioned in this paper, which comprises a rectangular inclined OWC that ducts the generated airflow through two contra-rotating Well's turbines, each coupled to a 250kW induction generator giving a 500kW maximum power output.

Large-scale experiments on the behaviour of a generalised Oscillating Water Column under random waves

TL;DR: In this paper, wave reflection and loading on a generalised Oscillating Water Column (OWC) wave energy converter are investigated by means of large scale (approximately 1:5-1:9) experiments in the Grosse Wellenkanal (GWK), in which variation of both still water depth and orifice (PTO) dimension are investigated under random waves.
Journal ArticleDOI

Scaling and air compressibility effects on a three-dimensional offshore stationary OWC wave energy converter

TL;DR: In this article, scaling and air compressibility effects on the performance of an offshore stationary OWC wave energy converter are studied in a 3D numerical wave tank, where a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model based on the RANS equations and the VOF surface capturing scheme is developed and validated against physical measurements of a 1:50 model-scale OWC.
Journal ArticleDOI

Nonlinear and viscous effects on the hydrodynamic performance of a fixed OWC wave energy converter

TL;DR: In this paper, the hydrodynamic performance of a fixed Oscillating Water Column (OWC) device is experimentally and numerically investigated based on the time-domain higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM).
Journal ArticleDOI

Model study of a shoreline wave-power system

TL;DR: In this article, a wave-power system which combines the concept of a breakwater and a harbor resonance chamber was developed in order to protect the shoreline and extract energy from the ocean.

An investigation of breaking wave pressures on inclined walls

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors assess the influence of front wall inclination on the magnitude of breaking wave pressures and conclude that a maximum pressure of 105% can be expected for a 10° forward inclined wall.
