X-ray microtomography analysis of lime application effects on soil porous system

TLDR
In this paper, X-ray microtomography (μCT) is used to evaluate changes on micromorphological and geometrical properties (porosity, number of pores, pore length, elongation, shape, connectivity and tortuosity) of a soil cultivated under no-tillage system (NTS) caused by the application of lime on the surface.

Assessing the long-term effects of zero-tillage on the macroporosity of Brazilian soils using X-ray Computed Tomography.

TL;DR: The results from this study indicate that long-term adoption of ZT leads to higher macroporosity and connectivity of pores which is likely to have positive implications for nutrient cycling, root growth, soil gas fluxes and water dynamics.

X-ray microtomography analysis of representative elementary volume (REV) of soil morphological and geometrical properties

TL;DR: In this article, 3D X-ray computed microtomography (μCT) images were used for investigating the representative elementary volume (REV) for soil properties such as soil macroporosity (MAP), number of macropores (NMAP), pore tortuosity (τ), and connectivity (Euler-Poincare characteristic, EPC) under no-tillage (NT) and conventional (CT) tillage systems.

X-ray computed tomography for assessing the effect of tillage systems on topsoil morphological attributes

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of long-term no-tillage (NT) and conventional tillage (CT) on the pore system of a clay soil was analyzed using 3D X-ray computed tomography (μCT) images.

3D analysis of the soil porous architecture under long term contrasting management systems by X-ray computed tomography

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of three contrasting tillage systems (zero-tillage, ZT, reduced tillage, RT, conventional tilage, CT) in the soil porous system of an Oxisol was analyzed.

Lime application effects on soil aggregate properties: Use of the mean weight diameter and synchrotron-based X-ray μCT techniques

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of surface liming on the intra-aggregate porous system of soil aggregates with equivalent diameters of 2-4 and 1-2mm, from 0 to 10 (A) and 10 to 20 cm (B) soil layers were investigated.

A non-local algorithm for image denoising

TL;DR: A new measure, the method noise, is proposed, to evaluate and compare the performance of digital image denoising methods, and a new algorithm, the nonlocal means (NL-means), based on a nonlocal averaging of all pixels in the image is proposed.

Watersheds in digital spaces: an efficient algorithm based on immersion simulations

TL;DR: A fast and flexible algorithm for computing watersheds in digital gray-scale images is introduced, based on an immersion process analogy, which is reported to be faster than any other watershed algorithm.
