Evaluating the energy and CO2 emissions impacts of shifts in residential water heating in the United States
TL;DR: In this paper, a first-order thermodynamic analysis was performed to quantify primary energy consumption and CO2 emissions with regional specificity by considering by considering local electricity mixes, heat rates, solar radiation profiles, heating degrees days, and water heating unit sales for 27 regions of the US.
Journal ArticleDOI
Drivers, barriers and strategies for zero carbon buildings in high-rise high-density cities
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors aim to demystify ZCB development in high-rise high-density cities by identifying and examining the drivers, barriers and strategies within Hong Kong as a typical case.
Journal ArticleDOI
Climate impacts on extreme energy consumption of different types of buildings.
TL;DR: Days of extreme heating consumption showed apparent decrease during the recent 30 years for residential and large venue buildings, whereas days of extreme cooling consumption increased in large venue building, and multiple regression analysis suggested heating energy consumption for commercial building was affected by maximum temperature, dry bulb temperature, solar radiation and minimum temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Analysis of Global, Direct and Diffuse Solar Radiation
TL;DR: In this article, the horizontal global, direct-beam and sky-diffuse solar radiation data measured in Hong Kong from 2008 to 2012, reports some of the general findings, evaluates mathematical model for predicting direct-normal solar radiation and computes various climatic variables
Journal ArticleDOI
A comprehensive review of energy-related data for U.S. commercial buildings
Yunyang Ye,Wangda Zuo,Gang Wang +2 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a comprehensive review to summarize data sources for energy usage in U.S. commercial buildings and discuss their usages for different applications, including benchmarking, building component analysis, market potential analysis, and policy making.

Developing an adaptive model of thermal comfort and preference - eScholarship
Richard de Dear,Gail Brager +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the semantics of thermal comfort in terms of thermal sensation, acceptability, and preference, as a function of both indoor and outdoor temperature, as predicted by the adaptive hypothesis.

Developing an adaptive model of thermal comfort and preference
Richard de Dear,Gail Brager +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the adaptive hypothesis predicts that contextual factors and past thermal history modify building occupants' thermal expectations and preferences, which is contrary to static assumptions underlying the current ASHRAE comfort standard 55-92.
