TL;DR: A review of molecular-beam epitaxy of GaAs and the observation of surface structures with high-energy electron diffraction in an ultrahigh-vacuum system is described in this article.
Abstract: A review of molecular-beam epitaxy of GaAs and the observation of surface structures with high-energy electron diffraction in an ultrahigh-vacuum system is described. The utilization of these surface structures as growth conditions to produce n- and p-type layers when doped with Sn, Ge, and Mg, and the electrical and optical evaluations of the layers thus grown is also discussed. The molecular-beam epitaxy method may be used to fabricate extremely thin multilayer structures and may play an increasing role in semiconductor technology.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the metal concentrations of Hypnum cupressiforme, Hylocomium splendens and Sphagnum magellanicum from different parts of Scandinavia.
Abstract: Metal concentrations of Hypnum cupressiforme, Hylocomium splendens and Sphagnum magellanicum from different parts of Scandinavia have been studied. The mean concentrations of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in Hypnum cupressiforme from southern Sweden are larger in the south-west than in the north-east. The difference is highly significant for Pb, Cu and No. The concentration of Pb and Cd in Hylocomium splendens is more than ten times larger in south-western Sweden than in northern Norway and also for other heavy metals (except Mn) the differences are considerable. No differences between northern and southern scandinavia in the concentrations of Ca, K and Mg have been measured. Heavy metal concentrations of Sphagnum magellanicum in ombrotrophic bogland sites coincides well with the concentrations of Hylocomium splendens from woodland sites of the same area. The deposition of heavy metals/hectare/year has been calculated. The only probable explanation of the measured gradients is that the deposition of heavy metals, originating from human activity is much greater over southern scandinavia, particularly south-western Sweden, than over northern Scandinavia. The regional basic concentrations reported in this article reflect the fall-out from an atmospheric pool to which both neighbouring and remote sources contribute.

TL;DR: In this article, a molecular beam epitaxy has been used for the attainment of single-crystal multiple-layer structures with alternating types of conductivities (p/n) or band-gap energies (GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs).
Abstract: Molecular‐beam epitaxy has been used successfully for the attainment of single‐crystal multiple‐layer structures with alternating types of conductivities (p/n) or band‐gap energies (GaAs/AlxGa1−xAs). Deposition by the molecular‐beam method offers the possibility of growing periodic‐structure layers with constant chemical composition profiles and controlled uniform thicknesses.

TL;DR: In this article, the partial current density-potential curves of the cathodic iron deposition were calculated by current efficiency measurements under steady-state and non-steady-state conditions at 25°C under hydrogen atmosphere.
Abstract: The cathodic iron deposition reaction from acid solutions was studied. The partial current density‐potential curves of the iron deposition were calculated by current efficiency measurements. The experiments were carried out under steady‐state and nonsteady‐state conditions at 25°C under hydrogen atmosphere. Under steady‐state conditions a rotating gold disk electrode was used in order to eliminate the rise of pH in the vicinity of the electrode surface. The results show two different reaction mechanisms depending on the at the electrode surface. At the kinetic data correspond to a noncatalyzed mechanism, while at a catalyzed mechanism takes place. The influence of the surface on the mechanism is due to the different electrochemical reaction orders related to the and the formation of hydrolysis products, which may be incorporated in the deposit. The calculated exchange current densities of the electrode show that the noncatalyzed mechanism is the normal one.

Abstract: The worldwide deposition of long-lived fission products is considered against the history of nuclear explosions. The present rate of deposition is much smaller than at the time of maximum fallout. The total amount deposited is consistent with the estimated amounts injected into the atmosphere.

TL;DR: In this article, a study of the deposition of light hydrocarbons in the C 1 -C 4 range on various group VIII and IB metals was carried out, and the results reported in this paper concern some aspects of the kinetics of the hydrocarbon deposition on nickel.
Abstract: ALTHOUGH the properties of carbon formed from hydrocarbons on catalytic metal surfaces have received some attention, the kinetics of the deposition have not been studied in detail. We have carried out a study of the deposition from light hydrocarbons in the C1–C4 range, on various group VIII and IB metals. The results reported here concern some aspects of the kinetics of the deposition from unsaturated hydrocarbons on nickel.

TL;DR: In this article, the uniformity of sheet resistance for a two-step arsenic diffusions was examined, where the sources used were AsCl 3 and tetraethyl orthosilicate.
Abstract: The variables affecting the uniformity of sheet resistance for a two step arsenic diffusions were examined. The sources used were AsCl 3 and tetraethyl orthosilicate. It was observed that the uniformity of sheet resistance (and hence surface concentration) is predominantly dependent on the variables during the deposition process. These are O 2 and N 2 carrier flow rates, source flow rates, and the temperature of deposition. The latter ranged from 350°C to 780°C. A comparison was made on the variables which affect arsenic and boron diffusions. In the latter case deposition temperatures were extended from a previous experiment [4] to as high as 1100°C.
