Abstract: Topology, geometry, and gauge fields play key roles in quantum physics as exemplified by fundamental phenomena such as the Aharonov-Bohm effect, the integer quantum Hall effect, the spin Hall, and topological insulators. The concept of topological protection has also become a salient ingredient in many schemes for quantum information processing and fault-tolerant quantum computation. The physical properties of such systems crucially depend on the symmetry group of the underlying holonomy. We study here a laser-cooled gas of strontium atoms coupled to laser fields through a 4-level resonant tripod scheme. By cycling the relative phases of the tripod beams, we realize non-Abelian SU(2) geometrical transformations acting on the dark-states of the system and demonstrate their non-Abelian character. We also reveal how the gauge field imprinted on the atoms impact their internal state dynamics. It leads to a new thermometry method based on the interferometric displacement of atoms in the tripod beams.

Abstract: Six directed hydrogen bonding (H-bonding) interactions allow for the reversible capture and reduction of dioxygen to a trans-1,2-peroxo within a tripodal zinc(II) framework. Spectroscopic studies of the dizinc peroxides, as well as on model zinc diazides, suggest H-bonding contributions serve a dominant role for the binding/activation of these small molecules.

Abstract: The tripod shafts used in high-speed trains transmit the power of a motor to axle reduction units. A tripod shaft is designed as a shaft with a protective fuse because the load applied to the reduction units is very large during operation. Fuse failure can lead to accidents and economic loss, such as train service interruption and repair problems at the accident site. Therefore, detecting the faults of fuses used in tripod shafts by using sensors is necessary. In this study, torsion fatigue tests for the failure modes were conducted, and strain data were collected by strain sensors from around the fuse of the shaft. The modified Mahalanobis distance was employed as the health indicator, and the fuse thresholds for the anomaly detection (AD) were defined using the three-sigma method. The AD performance of the tripod shafts was evaluated by comparing the results with real crack detection times.

Abstract: Here we aim to develop a facile emulsion-based method to prepare tripod gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with high suspension stability in an aqueous environment. A gyroid-structured polymer template formed by the hydrolysis of a degradable block copolymer, polystyrene (PS)-b-poly(L-lactide), is used for the fabrication of AuNPs. Also, a successful emulsification of dichloromethane (DCM) in the aqueous phase is developed by using thiolated polyethylene glycol (PEG-SH) as the stabilizer. Subsequently, the nanohybrids of PS/Au can be fabricated by templated electroless plating, and then selectively dissolving in the DCM dispersive phase. Most interestingly, a dedicated process for the simultaneous release of the tripod AuNPs from the dissolution of PS associated with PEG-SH at the interface of the emulsion is achieved, giving PEG-SH-functionalized tripod AuNPs dispersed in the aqueous phase, which significantly improves the suspension stabilization of tripod AuNPs. The in situ temperature-programmed electrospray-differential mobility analysis provides a quantitative, statistical analysis of mobility diameter, dynamic shape factor, polydispersity, and colloidal stability.

Abstract: We have studied the self-assembled morphologies of tripod nanoparticle solutions confined in nanoslits using dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) simulations. In the present study, composite-shaped nanoparticles, like a planar tripod model with an amphiphilic surface pattern, were also synthesized experimentally. Using the DPD results at various values of a hydrophobic ratio (HR) and arm length (AL), we create phase diagrams of the self-assembled morphologies of tripod nanoparticles. With each of the two parameters, we observe three morphologies in the tripod nanoparticle solution. Further, potential energy vs. temperature for various tripod nanoparticle solutions is compared for different self-assembled structures. Our simulations offer a guide to control the morphologies of self-assembled tripod nanoparticles, which constitute novel systems that may find applications in nanofluidic devices.

Abstract: The three-point adsorption of tripod-shaped molecules enables the formation of robust self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on solid surfaces, where the component molecules are fixed in a strictly upright orientation. In the present study, SAMs of a rigid molecular tripod consisting of an adamantane core and three CH2SH groups were employed to arrange ferrocene on a gold surface through oligo(p-phenyleneethynylene) linkers. Cyclic voltammetry of the monolayers demonstrated high surface coverage of ferrocene, yet the molecular interaction among adjacent ferrocene units was negligible. This was because of the extended intermolecular distance caused by the bulky tripod framework. The rates of electron transfer from the ferrocene to the gold surface through different linker lengths were determined by electrochemical measurements, from which the decay factor for oligo(p-phenyleneethynylene) wire was evaluated.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an outburst type warning tripod capable of automatic deployment, comprising: a spindle with a long rod-shaped structure; a polymer provided on the front of a main shaft to provide a load for flying and landing a safety tripod; a wing provided at the rear of the main shaft; a tripod connected to the main shaft so as to be unfolded; a folding and unfolding mechanism provided on the main shaft and the tripod to allow the tripod to be folded and unfolded in an umbrella structure; and a tripod releasing mechanism provided on the main shaft to operate the folding and unfolding mechanism when the safety tripod is brought into contact with a floor so that the tripod is unfolded. By doing so, the outburst type warning triangle can be used more conveniently and stably, thereby providing an effect of increasing reliability of tripod installation.

This obviously cuts the development expenses and time by a significant percent. Moreover, it’s possible to create complex and precise shapes with the technology, which would take more time and would be resource intensive if done by older methods, for example manual or automatic machining.
