Transmission and reflection of a surface wave plate mode through a transverse boundary separating two isotropic media

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the influence of the material properties and plate thicknesses on the guided wave reflection and transmission coefficients, as well as the conversion efficiency into higher order guided wave modes that approximate the bulk waves that would be excited in the two semi-infinite media case.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phonon contribution to wetting phenomena: macroscopic theory

TL;DR: In this article, the role of phonons in the wetting of a solid by an ideal liquid, such as liquid 4 He, was investigated and it was shown that pure phonon mechanism always results in wetting, and other mechanisms determine whether wetting or non-wetting occurs.
Book ChapterDOI

Multiple-Scattering Effects in the Second Harmonic LightGenerated at Randomly Rough Metallic Interfaces

TL;DR: In this article, the angular distribution of the scattered light at the harmonic frequency displays well-defined minima in the backscattering direction, and this effect is due to destructive interference between waves that have been multiply scattered in the valleys of the surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

First-principles screening calculation of the surface phonon dispersion curves at the (100) surface of sodium

TL;DR: A self-consistent nonperturbative screening calculation of the phonon dispersion relations for sodium has been carried out for both the bulk and the (100) surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

The excitation and detection of a leaky surface electromagnetic wave on a high-index dielectric grating in a prism-coupler geometry

TL;DR: In this paper, a p-polarized leaky surface electromagnetic wave whose sagittal plane is perpendicular to the generators of the interface between vacuum and high-index dielectric medium is studied.
