Coherent science at the SwissFEL x-ray laser
Bruce D. Patterson,Rafael Abela,Hans-Heinrich Braun,Uwe Flechsig,Romain Ganter,Y. Kim,Eugenie Kirk,A. Oppelt,Marco Pedrozzi,Sven Reiche,Leonid Rivkin,Th. Schmidt,Bernd Schmitt,Vladimir N. Strocov,Soichiro Tsujino,A. Wrulich +15 more
TL;DR: The Swiss FEL project as discussed by the authors is planning a hard x-ray free-electron laser, the SwissFEL, by 2016, which will produce intense, ultrashort pulses of transversely coherent radiation in the wavelength range 0.1?7?nm, with future extensions to cover the range of 0.08?30?nm.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: In this article, the first lasing results of SwissFEL, a hard X-ray free-electron laser (FEL) that recently came into operation at the Paul Scherrer Institute in Switzerland, were presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Laser-photofield emission from needle cathodes for low-emittance electron beams.
Romain Ganter,R. J. Bakker,C. Gough,Simon Leemann,Martin Paraliev,Marco Pedrozzi,F. Le Pimpec,Volker Schlott,Leonid Rivkin,A. Wrulich +9 more
TL;DR: Illumination of a ZrC needle with short laser pulses while high voltage pulses are applied, produces photo-field emitted electron bunches so that quantum efficiency near the apex can be much higher than for a flat photocathode due to the Schottky effect.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emittance minimisation with longitudinal dipole field variation
Ryutaro Nagaoka,A. Wrulich +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method to reduce the horizontal emittance by introducing a longitudinal variation of the field in a bending magnet, which can be analyzed analytically under different boundary conditions, starting from achromat condition, preferred for light source rings.
Journal ArticleDOI
SLS-2 – the upgrade of the Swiss Light Source
Andreas Streun,Terence Garvey,L. Rivkin,Volker Schlott,Thomas J. Schmidt,Philip R. Willmott,A. Wrulich +6 more
TL;DR: The plans for an upgrade of the Swiss Light Source are presented, covering the storage ring lattice concept, the accelerator component designs, the insertion device developments and the science potential of the upgraded facility.
