TL;DR: The analysis of the data from the Phoenix mission revealed an alkaline environment, in contrast to that found by the Mars Exploration Rovers, indicating that many different environments have existed on Mars.
Journal ArticleDOI
MATADOR 2002: A pilot field experiment on convective plumes and dust devils
Nilton O. Renno,Vincent J. Abreu,Jacquelin Koch,Peter H. Smith,Oscar Hartogensis,Henk A. R. de Bruin,Dirk Burose,Gregory T. Delory,William M. Farrell,Christopher J. Watts,J. Garatuza,Michael Parker,Allan I. Carswell +12 more
TL;DR: In this article, a comparative study of dust events on Earth and Mars was conducted to shed light on important physical processes of the weather and climate of both planets, and it was shown that terrestrial dust devils produce heat and dust fluxes two and five orders of magnitude larger than their background values.
Journal ArticleDOI
Correction for nonlinear photon counting effects in lidar systems
TL;DR: Application of the model has permitted us to extend the linear operating range of the PC system and to quantify accurately the response of the system in its nonlinear operating regime, thus increasing the useful dynamic range ofThe system by 1 order of magnitude.
Journal ArticleDOI
Automated method for lidar determination of cloud-base height and vertical extent
TL;DR: An algorithm for the automated analysis of lidar cloud returns has been developed and it has been found that the algorithm can handle the wide range of complex cloud situations encountered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Rayleigh Lidar Observations of Thermal Structure and Gravity Wave Activity in the High Arctic during a Stratospheric Warming
TL;DR: In this paper, Rayleigh lidar observations of temperature structure and gravity wave activity were carried out in the high Canadian Arctic at Eureka, Northwest Territories (80°N, 86°W).
