Parmar,Steven J. Skates +55 more
TL;DR: Although the mortality reduction was not significant in the primary analysis, it was noted a significant mortality reduction with MMS when prevalent cases were excluded, and encouraging evidence of a mortality reduction in years 7–14 was noted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sensitivity and specificity of multimodal and ultrasound screening for ovarian cancer, and stage distribution of detected cancers: Results of the prevalence screen of the UK Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS)
Usha Menon,Aleksandra Gentry-Maharaj,Rachel Hallett,Andy Ryan,Matthew Burnell,A. Sharma,Sara Lewis,Susan Davies,Susan Philpott,Alberto Lopes,Keith M. Godfrey,David H. Skates,Mahesh K. B. Parmar,Ian Jacobs +30 more
TL;DR: The United Kingdom Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening (UKCTOCS) as mentioned in this paper was a randomized controlled trial designed to assess the effect of screening on mortality, and the outcome of the initial screening was summarised in the report.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantitative screening of advanced glycation endproducts in cellular and extracellular proteins by tandem mass spectrometry
Paul J. Thornalley,Sinan Battah,Naila Ahmed,Nikolaos Karachalias,Stamatina Agalou,Roya Babaei-Jadidi,Anne Dawnay +6 more
TL;DR: Comprehensive screening of glycation adducts revealed the relative and quantitative importance of alpha-oxoaldehyde-derived advanced glycation endproducts in physiological modification of proteins-particularly hydroimidazolones, the efficient renal clearance of freeAdducts, and the marked increases in glycationadducts in diabetes and uraemia.
Journal ArticleDOI
The definition of acute kidney injury and its use in practice
Mark E. Thomas,Caroline Blaine,Anne Dawnay,Mark A. J. Devonald,Saoussen Ftouh,Chris Laing,Susan Latchem,Andrew Lewington,David V. Milford,Marlies Ostermann +9 more
TL;DR: The definition of AKI and its use in practice for clinicians and laboratory scientists are discussed and the use of electronic alerts to warn clinicians of possible AKI is enabled.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective Study Using the Risk of Ovarian Cancer Algorithm to Screen for Ovarian Cancer
Usha Menon,Steven J. Skates,Sara Lewis,Adam N. Rosenthal,Barnaby Rufford,Karen Sibley,Nicola MacDonald,Anne Dawnay,Arjun R. Jeyarajah,Robert C. Bast,David Oram,Ian Jacobs +11 more
TL;DR: An OCS strategy using the ROC algorithm is feasible and can achieve high specificity and PPV in postmenopausal women in the first prospective trial of a new ovarian cancer screening strategy.
