Resting-cell Studies on Carbon-source Regulation of β-Lactam Antibiotic Biosynthesis
Arnold L. Demain,Yves M. Kennel +1 more
Journal ArticleDOI
The influence of gramicidin S on hydrophobicity of germinating Bacillus brevis spores
TL;DR: The data indicate that gramicidin S is responsible for the hydrophobicity of B. brevis spores and it is suggested that in making spores hydrophobic, the antibiotic plays a role in concentrating the spores at interfaces where there is a higher probability of finding nutrients for germination and growth.
Journal ArticleDOI
Regulation of ACV synthetase activity in the beta-lactam biosynthetic pathway by carbon sources and their metabolites
Jinyou Zhang,Arnold L. Demain +1 more
TL;DR: Addition of l-cysteine to fermentation media increased β-lactam production in both organisms and alleviated the negative carbon source regulation by glycerol in S. clavuligerus.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of exogenous nucleotides on the candicidin fermentation.
Juan F. Martín,Arnold L. Demain +1 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that inhibition of antibiotic formation by exogenous nucleotides, including cyclic nucleotide, is similar to the effect produced by inorganic phosphate.
