Journal ArticleDOI
The genomic binding sites of a noncoding RNA
Matthew D. Simon,Charlotte I. Wang,Peter V. Kharchenko,Jason A. West,Brad Chapman,Artyom A. Alekseyenko,Mark L. Borowsky,Mitzi I. Kuroda,Robert E. Kingston +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a hybridization-based technique called Capture Hybridization Analysis of RNA targets (CHART) was used to enrich the DNA and protein targets of endogenous lncRNAs from flies and humans.
Journal ArticleDOI
A sequence motif within chromatin entry sites directs MSL establishment on the Drosophila X chromosome
Artyom A. Alekseyenko,Shouyong Peng,Shouyong Peng,Erica Larschan,Erica Larschan,Andrey A. Gorchakov,Andrey A. Gorchakov,Ok-Kyung Lee,Peter V. Kharchenko,Sean McGrath,Charlotte I. Wang,Elaine R. Mardis,Peter J. Park,Peter J. Park,Mitzi I. Kuroda,Mitzi I. Kuroda +15 more
TL;DR: These results provide strong evidence for both sequence-dependent and -independent steps in MSL targeting of dosage compensation to the male X chromosome.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-resolution ChIP–chip analysis reveals that the Drosophila MSL complex selectively identifies active genes on the male X chromosome
TL;DR: It is proposed that the MSL complex recognizes most X-linked genes, but only in the context of chromatin factors or modifications indicative of active transcription, which is likely to be an important function common to many chromatin organizing and modifying activities.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nature and function of insulator protein binding sites in the Drosophila genome
Yuri B. Schwartz,Yuri B. Schwartz,Daniela Linder-Basso,Peter V. Kharchenko,Michael Y. Tolstorukov,Maria Kim,Hua-Bing Li,Andrey A. Gorchakov,Andrey A. Gorchakov,Aki Minoda,Gregory A. Shanower,Artyom A. Alekseyenko,Nicole C. Riddle,Youngsook L. Jung,Tingting Gu,Annette Plachetka,Sarah C. R. Elgin,Mitzi I. Kuroda,Peter J. Park,Mikhail Savitsky,Gary H. Karpen,Vincenzo Pirrotta +21 more
TL;DR: Functional characterization of different classes of binding sites indicates that only a small fraction act as robust insulators in standard enhancer-blocking assays, and suggests that insulators are reserved for specific regulation of selected genes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Su(UR)ES: a gene suppressing DNA underreplication in intercalary and pericentric heterochromatin of Drosophila melanogaster polytene chromosomes.
Elena S. Belyaeva,Igor F. Zhimulev,E. I. Volkova,Artyom A. Alekseyenko,Yury M. Moshkin,Dmitry E. Koryakov +5 more
TL;DR: Evidence is provided that the processes leading to DNA underreplication in intercalary heterochromatin (IH) and PH are affected by the same genetic mechanism.
