Journal ArticleDOI
Differential effects of beta-adrenergic agonists and antagonists in LQT1, LQT2 and LQT3 models of the long QT syndrome.
TL;DR: The data suggest that beta-adrenergic stimulation induces TdP by increasing transmural dispersion of repolarization in L QT1 and LQT2 but suppresses T dP by decreasing dispersion in LqT3.
Journal ArticleDOI
Proposed Diagnostic Criteria for the Brugada Syndrome
Arthur A.M. Wilde,Charles Antzelevitch,Martin Borggrefe,Josep Brugada,Ramon Brugada,Pedro Brugada,Domenico Corrado,R. N. W. Hauer,Robert S. Kass,Koonlawee Nademanee,Silvia G. Priori,J.A. Towbin +11 more
TL;DR: In regions of Southeast Asia where it is endemic, the clinical presentation of Brugada syndrome is distinguished by a male predominance and the appearance of arrhythmic events at an average age of 40 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ionic and Cellular Basis for the Predominance of the Brugada Syndrome Phenotype in Males
José M. Di Diego,Jonathan M. Cordeiro,Robert J. Goodrow,Jeffrey M. Fish,Andrew C. Zygmunt,Guillermo J. Pérez,Fabiana S. Scornik,Charles Antzelevitch +7 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the predominance of the Brugada phenotype in males is a result of the presence of a more prominent Ito in males versus females.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genetic and biophysical basis of sudden unexplained nocturnal death syndrome (SUNDS), a disease allelic to Brugada syndrome
Matteo Vatta,Robert Dumaine,George Varghese,Todd A. Richard,Wataru Shimizu,Naohiko Aihara,Koonlawee Nademanee,Ramon Brugada,Josep Brugada,Gumpanart Veerakul,Hua Li,Neil E. Bowles,Pedro Brugada,Charles Antzelevitch,Jeffrey A. Towbin +14 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that SUNDS and Brugada syndrome are phenotypically, genetically and functionally the same disorder.
Journal ArticleDOI
A molecular link between the sudden infant death syndrome and the long-QT syndrome.
Peter J. Schwartz,Silvia G. Priori,Robert Dumaine,Carlo Napolitano,Charles Antzelevitch,Marco Stramba-Badiale,Todd A. Richard,Maria Rosaria Berti,Raffaella Bloise +8 more
TL;DR: The sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) remains the leading cause of death in the first year of life and has a devastating impact on the affected families, and the only preventive measure recommended is to avoid having infants sleep in a prone position.
