Daniela Bezdan,Kirill Grigorev,Cem Meydan,Fanny A. Pelissier Vatter,Michele Cioffi,Varsha Rao,Matthew MacKay,Kiichi Nakahira,Philip Burnham,Ebrahim Afshinnekoo,Craig Westover,Daniel Butler,Chris Mozsary,Timothy Donahoe,Jonathan Foox,Tejaswini Mishra,Serena Lucotti,Brinda K. Garrett-Bakelman,Stephan Ossowski,Iwijn De Vlaminck,Christopher E. Mason +30 more
TL;DR: This longitudinal analysis of astronaut cfDNA during spaceflight and the exosome profiles highlights their utility for astronaut health monitoring, as well as cf-mtDNA levels as a potential biomarker for physiological stress or immune system responses related to microgravity, radiation exposure, and the other unique environmental conditions of spaceflight.
Journal ArticleDOI
Multi-Omic, Single-Cell, and Biochemical Profiles of Astronauts Guide Pharmacological Strategies for Returning to Gravity
Monica L. Gertz,Christopher R. Chin,Delia Tomoiaga,Christina Chang,Daniel Butler,Ebrahim Afshinnekoo,Chris Mozsary,Timothy Donahoe,Daniela Bezdan,Michael Schmidt,Ari Melnick,Francine E. Garrett-Bakelman,Brian Crucian,Stuart M. C. Lee,Sara R. Zwart,Scott M. Smith,Cem Meydan,Christopher E. Mason +17 more
TL;DR: The biochemical profile expressed upon landing showed significant increases in markers associated with initiation or resolution of inflammation as well as skeletal muscle regeneration and a simultaneous decrease was seen in markers that had been elevated during flight.
