Journal ArticleDOI
Birth of a comet magnetosphere: A spring of water ions
Hans Nilsson,Hans Nilsson,Gabriella Stenberg Wieser,Etienne Behar,Etienne Behar,Cyril Simon Wedlund,Herbert Gunell,Masatoshi Yamauchi,Rickard Lundin,Stas Barabash,Martin Wieser,Chris Carr,Emanuele Cupido,James L. Burch,Andrei Fedorov,J. A. Sauvaud,Hannu Koskinen,Hannu Koskinen,Esa Kallio,Esa Kallio,Jean-Pierre Lebreton,Anders Eriksson,Niklas J. T. Edberg,Raymond Goldstein,Pierre Henri,Christoph Koenders,Prachet Mokashi,Zoltán Németh,Ingo Richter,Karoly Szego,Martin Volwerk,Claire Vallat,Martin Rubin +32 more
TL;DR: Using the Rosetta Plasma Consortium ion composition analyzer, this work traces the evolution from the first detection of water ions to when the atmosphere begins repelling the solar wind, and reports the spatial structure of this early interaction.
Journal ArticleDOI
First detection of a diamagnetic cavity at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Charlotte Goetz,Christoph Koenders,Ingo Richter,Kathrin Altwegg,James L. Burch,Chris Carr,Emanuele Cupido,Anders Eriksson,Carsten Güttler,Pierre Henri,Prachet Mokashi,Zoltán Németh,Hans Nilsson,Martin Rubin,Holger Sierks,Bruce T. Tsurutani,Charlotte Vallat,Martin Volwerk,Karl-Heinz Glassmeier +18 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the onboard magnetometer data acquired by the Rosetta Plasma Consortium instrumentation to confirm the existence of a diamagnetic cavity at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interplanetary coronal mass ejection observed at STEREO-A, Mars, comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, Saturn, and New Horizons en route to Pluto: Comparison of its Forbush decreases at 1.4, 3.1, and 9.9 AU

Burch,Etienne Behar,Stas Barabash,David Andrews,Nicolas Altobelli +53 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss observations of the journey throughout the Solar System of a large interplanetary coronal mass ejection (ICME) that was ejected at the Sun on 14 October 2014.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamical features and spatial structures of the plasma interaction region of 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko and the solar wind
TL;DR: In this paper, a global 3D hybrid simulation model of the cometary plasma interaction is presented to resolve the innermost coma sufficiently, which reveals the presence of a cometary ionopause and a recombination layer, in general agreement with single-fluid MHD simulations.
Journal ArticleDOI
Structure and evolution of the diamagnetic cavity at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Charlotte Goetz,Christoph Koenders,Kirk C. Hansen,James L. Burch,Chris Carr,Anders Eriksson,Dennis Frühauff,Carsten Güttler,Pierre Henri,Hans Nilsson,Ingo Richter,Martin Rubin,Holger Sierks,Bruce T. Tsurutani,Martin Volwerk,Karl-Heinz Glassmeier,Karl-Heinz Glassmeier +16 more
TL;DR: The long duration of the Rosetta mission allows us to study the evolution of the diamagnetic cavity at comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in detail as mentioned in this paper.
