Journal ArticleDOI
Critical nodes in signalling pathways: Insights into insulin action
TL;DR: The concept of 'critical nodes' is used to define the important junctions in these pathways and illustrate their unique role using insulin signalling as a model system.
Journal ArticleDOI
New role of bone morphogenetic protein 7 in brown adipogenesis and energy expenditure
Yu-Hua Tseng,Efi Kokkotou,Tim J. Schulz,Tian Lian Huang,Jonathon N. Winnay,Cullen M. Taniguchi,Thien T. Tran,Ryo Suzuki,Daniel Espinoza,Yuji Yamamoto,Molly J. Ahrens,Andrew T. Dudley,Andrew W. Norris,Rohit N. Kulkarni,C. Ronald Kahn +14 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that whereas some members of the family of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) support white adipocyte differentiation, BMP7 singularly promotes differentiation of brown preadipocytes even in the absence of the normally required hormonal induction cocktail.
Journal ArticleDOI
Complementary roles of IRS-1 and IRS-2 in the hepatic regulation of metabolism
TL;DR: The results demonstrate that hepatic IRS-1 and IRS-2 have complementary roles in the control of hepatic metabolism, with IRS- 1 more closely linked to glucose homeostasis and IRS/IRS-2 more closely connected to lipid metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Divergent regulation of hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism by phosphoinositide 3-kinase via Akt and PKCλ/ζ
Cullen M. Taniguchi,Tatsuya Kondo,Mini P. Sajan,Ji Luo,Roderick T. Bronson,Tomoichiro Asano,Robert V. Farese,Lewis C. Cantley,C. Ronald Kahn +8 more
TL;DR: Data indicate that the PI3K pathway is critical for insulin's actions in the liver in vivo, and that differential regulation by Akt and PKClambda/xi differentially defines specific actions of insulin andPI3K on hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating Nucleic Acids Are Associated With Outcomes of Patients With Pancreatic Cancer
Vincent Bernard,D. U. Kim,D. U. Kim,F. Anthony San Lucas,J. Castillo,Kelvin Allenson,Feven C Mulu,Bret M. Stephens,Jonathan Huang,Alexander Semaan,Paola A. Guerrero,Nabiollah Kamyabi,Jun Zhao,Mark W. Hurd,Eugene J. Koay,Cullen M. Taniguchi,Joseph M. Herman,Milind Javle,Robert A. Wolff,Matthew H.G. Katz,Gauri R. Varadhachary,Anirban Maitra,Hector A Alvarez +22 more
TL;DR: In a prospective cohort of pancreatic cancer patients, longitudinal monitoring using liquid biopsy samples through exoDNA and ctDNA provides both predictive and prognostic information relevant to therapeutic stratification.
