Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanical properties of atomically thin boron nitride and the role of interlayer interactions
Alexey Falin,Qiran Cai,Elton J. G. Santos,Declan Scullion,Dong Qian,Rui Zhang,Rui Zhang,Zhi Yang,Shaoming Huang,Kenji Watanabe,Takashi Taniguchi,Matthew Barnett,Ying Chen,Rodney S. Ruoff,Lu Hua Li +14 more
TL;DR: It is reported that high-quality single-crystalline mono- and few-layer BN nanosheets are one of the strongest electrically insulating materials and more intriguingly, few- Layer BN shows mechanical behaviours quite different from those of few- layer graphene under indentation.
Journal ArticleDOI
High thermal conductivity of high-quality monolayer boron nitride and its thermal expansion.
Qiran Cai,Declan Scullion,Wei Gan,Alexey Falin,Shunying Zhang,Kenji Watanabe,Takashi Taniguchi,Ying Chen,Elton J. G. Santos,Lu Hua Li +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, high-quality one-atom-thin hexagonal boron nitride (BN) has a thermal conductivity (κ) of 751 W/mK at room temperature, the second largest κ per unit weight among all semiconductors and insulators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mechanism of Gold-Assisted Exfoliation of Centimeter-Sized Transition-Metal Dichalcogenide Monolayers
Matěj Velický,Matěj Velický,Matěj Velický,Gavin Donnelly,William Hendren,Stephen McFarland,Declan Scullion,William J. I. DeBenedetti,Gabriela C. Correa,Yimo Han,Andrew J. Wain,Melissa A. Hines,David A. Muller,Kostya S. Novoselov,Héctor D. Abruña,Robert M. Bowman,Elton J. G. Santos,Fumin Huang +17 more
TL;DR: Gold-assisted mechanical exfoliation of monolayer molybdenum disulfide, up to a centimeter scale, is demonstrated and electrochemical characterization reveals intriguing interactions between monolayers MoS2 and Au.
Journal ArticleDOI
Approaching the Intrinsic Limit in Transition Metal Diselenides via Point Defect Control.
Drew Edelberg,Daniel Rhodes,Alexander Kerelsky,Bumho Kim,Jue Wang,Amirali Zangiabadi,Chanul Kim,Antony Abhinandan,Jenny Ardelean,Micheal Scully,Declan Scullion,Lior Embon,Rui Zu,Elton J. G. Santos,Luis Balicas,Chris A. Marianetti,Katayun Barmak,Xiaoyang Zhu,James Hone,Abhay Pasupathy +19 more
TL;DR: Two dimensional transition metal dichalcogenide (TMD) based semiconductors have generated intense recent interest due to their novel optical and electronic properties and potential for applica... as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Raman signature and phonon dispersion of atomically thin boron nitride
Qiran Cai,Declan Scullion,Alexey Falin,Kenji Watanabe,Takashi Taniguchi,Ying Chen,Elton J. G. Santos,Lu Hua Li +7 more
TL;DR: The intrinsic Raman signature of monolayer and few-layer BN is revealed and it is found that atomically thin BN without interaction with a substrate has a G band frequency similar to that of bulk hexagonal BN (hBN), but strain induced by the substrate can cause a pronounced Raman shift.
