Journal ArticleDOI

Size-dependent internalization of particles via the pathways of clathrin-and caveolae-mediated endocytosis

TL;DR: The data indicate that the size itself of (ligand-devoid) particles can determine the pathway of entry in non-phagocytic B16 cells, and kinetic parameters may determine the almost exclusive internalization of such particles along this pathway rather than via caveolae.
Journal ArticleDOI

Use of resonance energy-transfer to monitor membrane-fusion

TL;DR: An assay for vesicle--vesicle fusion involving resonance energy transfer between N-(7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl), the energy donor, and rhodamine, the energy acceptor has been developed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fluorescence method for measuring the kinetics of fusion between biological-membranes

TL;DR: By use of this method, the kinetics of fusion between Sendai virus and erythrocyte ghosts and virus-induced fusion of ghosts were readily revealed and were not related to processes other than fusion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cationic lipids, lipoplexes and intracellular delivery of genes

TL;DR: Some recent developments in the field on the structure/function relationship of cationic lipids in the mechanism of transfection and a comparison with mechanisms of viral and polyplex-mediated gene delivery are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Lipoplex-mediated transfection of mammalian cells occurs through the cholesterol-dependent clathrin-mediated pathway of endocytosis.

TL;DR: It is concluded that efficient lipoplex-mediated transfection requires complex internalization via the cholesterol-dependent clathrin-mediated pathway of endocytosis, and that caveolae-mediated internalization can be excluded.
