Bounding global aerosol radiative forcing of climate change
Nicolas Bellouin,Johannes Quaas,Edward Gryspeerdt,Stefan Kinne,Philip Stier,Duncan Watson-Parris,Olivier Boucher,Kenneth S. Carslaw,Matthew Christensen,Anne-Laure Daniau,Jean-Louis Dufresne,Graham Feingold,Stephanie Fiedler,Stephanie Fiedler,Piers M. Forster,Andrew Gettelman,Jim Haywood,Jim Haywood,Ulrike Lohmann,Florent Malavelle,Thorsten Mauritsen,Daniel T. McCoy,G. Myhre,Johannes Mülmenstädt,David Neubauer,Anna Possner,Anna Possner,Maria Rugenstein,Yousuke Sato,Yousuke Sato,Michael Schulz,Stephen E. Schwartz,Odran Sourdeval,Odran Sourdeval,Trude Storelvmo,Velle Toll,Velle Toll,David M. Winker,Bjorn Stevens +38 more
TL;DR: A new range of aerosol radiative forcing over the industrial era is provided based on multiple, traceable, and arguable lines of evidence, including modeling approaches, theoretical considerations, and observations, to constrain the forcing from aerosol‐radiation interactions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Carrier localization mechanisms in InxGa1?xN/GaN quantum wells
Duncan Watson-Parris,M. J. Godfrey,Philip Dawson,Rachel A. Oliver,M. J. Galtrey,Menno J. Kappers,Colin J. Humphreys +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors calculated the localization lengths of the electrons and holes in InGaN/GaN quantum wells using numerical solutions of the effective mass Schrodinger equation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Understanding Rapid Adjustments to Diverse Forcing Agents
Christopher J. Smith,Ryan J. Kramer,G. Myhre,Piers M. Forster,Brian J. Soden,Timothy Andrews,Olivier Boucher,Gregory Faluvegi,Gregory Faluvegi,Dagmar Fläschner,Øivind Hodnebrog,Matthew Kasoar,Viatcheslav Kharin,Alf Kirkevåg,Jean-Francois Lamarque,Johannes Mülmenstädt,Dirk Jan Leo Oliviè,Thomas Richardson,Bjørn Hallvard Samset,Drew Shindell,Philip Stier,Toshihiko Takemura,Apostolos Voulgarakis,Duncan Watson-Parris +23 more
TL;DR: It is shown that rapid adjustments reduce the effective radiative forcing (ERF) of black carbon by half of the instantaneous forcing, but for CO2 forcing, rapid adjustments increase ERF.
Journal ArticleDOI
The consequences of high injected carrier densities on carrier localization and efficiency droop in InGaN/GaN quantum well structures
Simon Hammersley,Duncan Watson-Parris,Philip Dawson,M. J. Godfrey,Tom J. Badcock,Menno J. Kappers,Clifford McAleese,Rachel A. Oliver,Colin J. Humphreys +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, a reduction in the S-shape temperature dependence of the peak photoluminescence energy with increasing excitation power density is observed, which is a key fingerprint of carrier localization.
Journal ArticleDOI
The global aerosol–climate model ECHAM6.3–HAM2.3 – Part 1: Aerosol evaluation
Ina Tegen,David Neubauer,Sylvaine Ferrachat,Colombe Siegenthaler-Le Drian,Isabelle Bey,Isabelle Bey,Nick Schutgens,Nick Schutgens,Philip Stier,Duncan Watson-Parris,Tanja Stanelle,Hauke Schmidt,Sebastian Rast,Harri Kokkola,Martin G. Schultz,Sabine Schroeder,Nikos Daskalakis,Stefan Barthel,Bernd Heinold,Ulrike Lohmann +19 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluate aerosol simulations with the global aerosol-climate model ECHAM6.3.3 and HAM2.3, which is the aerosol component of the fully coupled aerosol-chemistry climate model.
