TL;DR: Men with low circulating free testosterone may have a lower risk of overall prostate cancer; this may be due to a direct biological effect, or detection bias.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating Insulin-like Growth Factor-I Concentrations and Risk of 30 Cancers: Prospective Analyses in UK Biobank.
Anika Knuppel,Georgina K. Fensom,Eleanor L. Watts,Marc J. Gunter,Neil Murphy,Keren Papier,Aurora Perez-Cornago,Julie A. Schmidt,Karl Smith Byrne,Ruth C. Travis,Timothy J. Key +10 more
TL;DR: Assessment of associations between serum IGF-I concentrations and incidence of less common cancers in the UK Biobank study found a positive association with cancers at several sites, but studies with longer follow-up and pooled analyses are needed to further assess how broad the role of IGF- I is in cancer development.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating insulin‐like growth factor‐I, total and free testosterone concentrations and prostate cancer risk in 200 000 men in UK Biobank
Eleanor L. Watts,Georgina K. Fensom,Karl Smith Byrne,Aurora Perez-Cornago,Naomi E. Allen,Anika Knuppel,Marc J. Gunter,Michael V. Holmes,Michael V. Holmes,Richard M. Martin,Richard M. Martin,Neil Murphy,Konstantinos K. Tsilidis,Konstantinos K. Tsilidis,Bu B. Yeap,Bu B. Yeap,Timothy J. Key,Ruth C. Travis +17 more
TL;DR: Findings implicate IGF‐I and free testosterone in prostate cancer development and/or progression and two‐sample Mendelian randomisation analysis of IGF-I and risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Circulating sex hormones in relation to anthropometric, sociodemographic and behavioural factors in an international dataset of 12,300 men

Key,Ruth C. Travis +58 more
TL;DR: Circulating sex hormones in men are strongly associated with age and body mass index, and to a lesser extent with smoking status and alcohol consumption.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prospective analyses of testosterone and sex hormone-binding globulin with the risk of 19 types of cancer in men and postmenopausal women in UK Biobank.
Eleanor L. Watts,Aurora Perez-Cornago,Anika Knuppel,Konstantinos K. Tsilidis,Konstantinos K. Tsilidis,Timothy J. Key,Ruth C. Travis +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the associations of estimated free and total circulating testosterone and SHBG with cancer risk in men and postmenopausal women, using a pan-cancer approach, including 19 cancers in UK Biobank.
