A Runaway Black Hole in COSMOS: Gravitational Wave or Slingshot Recoil?
Francesca Civano,Martin Elvis,Giorgio Lanzuisi,Giorgio Lanzuisi,Knud Jahnke,G. Zamorani,Laura Blecha,Angela Bongiorno,Marcella Brusa,Andrea Comastri,Heng Hao,A. Leauthaud,Avi Loeb,M. Mignoli,Vincenzo Mainieri,Enrico Piconcelli,Mara Salvato,N. Z. Scoville,Jonathan R. Trump,Cristian Vignali,Tom Aldcroft,Micol Bolzonella,Eli Bressert,Alexis Finoguenov,Antonella Fruscione,Anton M. Koekemoer,Nico Cappelluti,Fabrizio Fiore,S. Giodini,Roberto Gilli,Chris Impey,S. J. Lilly,Elisabeta Lusso,Simonetta Puccetti,John D. Silverman,Herve Aussel,Peter Capak,Dave Frayer,E. Le Floc'h,H. J. McCracken,D. B. Sanders,David Schiminovich,Yoshi Taniguchi +42 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented a detailed study of a peculiar source in the COSMOS survey at z=0.359, where the distance between the 2, measured in the HST/ACS image, is 0.495" that corresponds to a projected separation of 2.46 kpc.
Journal ArticleDOI
G0.253+0.016: a molecular cloud progenitor of an Arches-like cluster
Steven N. Longmore,Steven N. Longmore,Jill Rathborne,Nate Bastian,João Alves,Joana Ascenso,John Bally,Leonardo Testi,Andy Longmore,Cara Battersby,Eli Bressert,Eli Bressert,Cormac Purcell,Cormac Purcell,Andrew Walsh,James M. Jackson,Jonathan B. Foster,Sergio Molinari,Stefan Meingast,António Amorim,João Paulo Matos Santos Lima,R. Marques,André Moitinho,J. Pinhao,José Manuel Rebordão,Filipe Duarte Santos +25 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors make use of existing multi-wavelength data including recently available far-IR continuum (Herschel/Hi-GAL) and mm spectral line (HOPS and MALT90) data and present new, deep, multiple-filter, near-IR (VLT/NACO) observations to study G0.253+0.016.
Journal ArticleDOI
The dangers of being trigger-happy
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the evidence offered for triggered star formation against the backdrop provided by recent numerical simulations of feedback from massive stars at or below giant molecular cloud sizescales, and found that none of the observational markers improved the chances of correctly identifying a given star as triggered by more than factors of two at most.
Journal ArticleDOI
There are no starless massive proto-clusters in the first quadrant of the galaxy
TL;DR: In this article, the authors search the 1.1 mm Bolocam Galactic Plane Survey for clumps containing sufficient mass to form approximately 10{sup 4} M{sub Sun} star clusters and find that all massive proto-clusters in the first quadrant are actively forming massive stars.
Journal ArticleDOI
How to find young massive cluster progenitors
Eli Bressert,Eli Bressert,Adam Ginsburg,John Bally,Cara Battersby,Steven N. Longmore,Leonardo Testi,Leonardo Testi +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors estimate the observable properties of the massive proto-clusters (MPCs) for existing Galactic plane surveys and suggest how they may be sought in recent and upcoming extragalactic observations.
